PS - You don't mention it in POST 1, so I'll just throw it out there.
For Multiecuscan to work/communicate, you must purchase and then register it.
The free version does NOTHING - it's a simulation showing you what screen shots look like.

If I buy this cable set and use ELM327, will my Bluetooth ELM327 plug into the yellow cable? I was looking to purchase the AlfaOBD on my Android phone and use Bluetooth. I'm using the demo version now without much success. Don't know which ECU to pick from the drop down menu.

I've been using the Torque Pro OBD reader with Fiat add-on to scan and clear codes.

    Fabio13,

I've read what you wrote and understand it - YES, if you buy the Stardiag FIAT/ALFA Modified USB Connection ELM327 Box, you will be able to plug into the YELLOW CABLE

You can't do ANYTHING with the DEMO VERSION because it is a simulation....
ONLY the Paid /Registered version will allow you to do stuff.

For reading and erasing codes on the Fiat, I too use an Android Phone (Samsung) with Torque Pro Software w/ the FIAT Package and a Bluetooth ELM327 - easy peasy - no cable required.

Here's the bottom line deal on WHEN you should use cables all the way through to the OBD2 Port when going BEYOND the simple code reading & erasing.

I will present it in easy to understand terms that are not so into detail that it can't be understood

There are some electronic parts on Fiats and Alfas, that when replaced, the new replacement part needs to be "recognized and recorded" into the overall "system" of working parts within the car computer.

That requires that you have to perform what's called a "Proxy Alignment".

This procedure will recognize the parameters of the new part, and then allow you to remove the parameters of the old part.

For example - if you place something like a electronic throttle body, or a particular electric door lock assembly on a 4 door car (meaning you have 4 locks in 4 different locations)

NOW - here's the BIGGIE - IF, when performing a Proxy Alignment, you lose communication between the car computer and the PC laptop, you can crash and "brick" the vehicle computer $$$$...

It's akin to the warnings you get when WINDOWS when it is updating when you go to turn on/turn off your laptop =
"do not turn off the power when this procedure is performing"

So, for performing system checks and removing CEL's like with a Android Phone & Torque plus a Wi-Fi or Bluetooth ELM327connection is fine.

But for vehicle service repair, a constant/unbreakable cable connection is the way to go...

For FIATS and Alfa-Romeo's, you will need to buy a MODIFIED ELM327 from a reputable dealer (emphasis on MODIFIED),
who in turn buys his products from reputable MFG's.

The USB Connected ELM327 I mentioned earlier in this thread - Stardiag - is manufactured in Germany.
Bottom Line; The ELM327 Box is where you should not look to go cheap...
    Link: https://electronic-fuchs.de/epages/e...-%280%2C2kg%29

It's a recommended brand on the Multiecuscan website - second one down the list/green color.
    LINK TO APPROVED ELM327's: https://www.multiecuscan.net/HowToUse.aspx

On the other hand, cheap ChiCom Cables from Ebay tend to be pretty stable items, because it's just a wire with two crimp connections.
BUT, like anything, a bad one slips through.

USUALLY, that shows up the 1st time you try to connect w/ the cable - so no harm is done.

    Hope that helps -

Okay. I've been used to carburetors and throttle cables. I want to get into this new stuff. I understand doing a proxy alignment but not the exact equipment needed.

I was going to get the Alfa OBD program at $50. I have the free demo. You say the demo is a simulation? What's the difference from Multiecuscan? I thought it was just a different brand doing the same thing?

Don't have a laptop. I'd have to use a 20-30ft cable from the garage to the house for windows 8.1. So I couldn't use my Android phone? I do have an Apple tablet and Android tablet.

Did you actually buy your modified cable from Germany? Shipped from Germany? 40 Euros?

    Hey Fabio,

Here's the clarifications and answers to your questions.

What you already have - A Phone with Torque and the FIAT Add On - should take care of 99% of what you (and most forum members) encounter/want to do on your 500.
For example, Reading Codes & Clearing CEL's / Check Engine Lights.

I have Torque/FIAT on my Android phone as well, and for the past 6 years it's done everything I needed it to do - and I didn't need anything else.

Last year my wife gave the thumbs up to purchase an Alfa-Romeo Stelvio Q4

For this new car and it's sub-systems, I need something more powerful than Torque can offer - i.e. resetting the Oil Change Light - hence my researching and adding Multiecuscan to my "toolbox".

BOTH Multiecuscan & AlfaOBD have their advantages and disadvantages, and you need to research that in the owner forums and decide on your own which gets your $$$.

    MOST IMPORTANT POINT- WINDOWS OS:
Multiecuscan and Alfa OBD are programmed in Eastern Euorpe.
Their programmers work on Windows 10 PC's, and thus their code is primarily written Windows10 PC Laptops.
They are shooting for the end user hitting the gosl the 1st time, and thus code for Cable Connections from the PC to the car OBD2 Port.
I think you will find this in every software out there that is coded by enthusiasts - i.e. Forscan (for Fords).

With that said, for the "niche" end users that choose to be different, Multiecuscan and Alfa OBD offer Apple iphone & iPad OS Platforms & Bluetooth/Wi-Fi Data Transmission methods.

BUT my careful review of those niche end user reviews/complaints quickly show you they tend to get less successful results, and sometimes catastrophic failures...

My free advice, don't screw around - make the investment in a new Windows 10 Laptop for $150 - follow the website Slickdeals for PC Laptop Deals.
Father's Day is coming up and then there's Black Friday in November.
Put in the footwork and research both programs, and by all means go with a 100% cable transmission solution to the OBD2 Port.
    Slickdeals Laptop LINK: https://slickdeals.net/laptop-deals/

    DEMO VERSIONS:
BOTH softwares also offer a DEMO version, and both of their webpages tell you what their DEMO version will do, and won't do.

    FIAT/ALFA Modified ELM327:
I bought my Stardiag USB (ONLY) Connected ELM 327 from Alfissimo.
Jason - the Owner - substituted the Stardiag USB for the one in the link BELOW.
No big deal for me, as BOTH units are approved by Multiecuscan & ALfaOBD

    Alfissimo ELM327 LINK:

    Hope that helps

Thanks buddy! You hit the nail on the head with your answers. I can understand what’s going on now. I was thinking of buying that set up and then it was sold so that must have been you. Really appreciate you spelling it out. Especially the 99% Torque Pro part. I’ll check those forums.

    Thank you.

    Just an FYI -

The USB Connected "Stardiag" Brand ELM 327 from Germany is 40 Euros = $49 at today's exchange rate.

The International Shipping from Germany to the US is 18 Euros = $18 at today's exchange rate.

Add them together and you come to $67 USD TOTAL

That "combined price = "ELM327 + International shipping" is $2 cheaper than the $69 for JUST the ELM327 WITHOUT SHIPPING from Alfissimo

It will work with both Multiecuscan & AlfaOBD.

BUT - Be aware that they soon go on summer vacation for a week from June 12th to June 18th.

They take PAYPAL as well as Visa/MC - so no worries there...

I also see a group of 4 colored cables and for a bit more ($32?) 6 colored cables. Would I want those for additional capabilities? The extra cost wouldn’t matter to me.

I bought the set of (6) because between the FIAT & Alfa, I needed (3) different cables between both cars.

In February, the Ebay vendor I bought my set from, had all (6) for just $27 with free shipping - so I took that route.

He doesn't have any more (of anything for that matter) BUT you can use that price as a comparison when looking on Ebay.

They're all made by the same ChiCom factory, and then sold to various dealers who then resell them on Ebay, Alibaba, Aliexpress, yada, yada, yada...

Multiecuscan has this table of systems it can access, and to figure out what cables you will need.

AlfaOBD has these tables of systems it can access, and to figure out what cables you will need.
    LINK 1: https://www.alfaobd.com/supported_cars.html
    Link 2: https://www.alfaobd.com/supported_units.html

Each year, as BOTH software suppliers add features & sub-systems, you might need an additional cable - so yeah, buying all 6 is the most reasonable = "one and done"

To add, I don't know how it is on AlfaOBD, but on Multiecuscan, you start with the ELM327 Box,
and when you want to access specific systems, it prompts you to, for example, "connect the yellow cable" or "disconnect the yellow cable and add the grey cable"

Again, it's nice to have ALL the cables so you aren't halfway into something, only to find out you don't have a $5 cable...

HTH and if you have any more questions, don't hesitate to ask either on this thread or by PM.
