Unable to connect with Multiecuscan, OBDLink MX and yellow cable. Please help.

Hello all. Asking the question since a search of the forums didn't turn anything up.

I am attempting a diagnostic connect to a 2013 500 Sport with the 1.4 Multiair. I have Multiecuscan running on a Win 10 PC with an OBDLink MX connected via a yellow adapter cable from Gendan to the car. Multiecuscan is unable to detect the OBDLink MX when I click on the "Scan for interfaces" button. Attempting to manually configure the interface results in a "Write time out" error. I have verified that the ODBLink MX is working by connecting to other vehicles. I was even able to connect to the 500 Sport with the OBDLink MX (no yellow cable) and OBDWiz (OBDLink's own software). I was unable to read anything without the yellow cable of course. I have not tried connecting Multiecuscan to the ODBLink MX without the yellow cable to the 500 Sport for fear of damaging something. Should I try that? If Multiecuscan is able to connect to the 500 Sport without the yellow cable, does it mean the yellow cable is suspect? What else am I doing wrong? Thanks for your help everyone.

Have you tried AlfaODB? I successfully used it with the ODBLink MX and yellow cable to reset airbag codes on my '12 Fiat 500.

    Good luck.

    Have a good day.

Yeah, I use AlfaOBD, a cheap Ebay yellow cable, and OBDLink MX. Works OK.

    @MyWifes500Sport

    Just sayin'

Before I made my Multiecuscan hardware and software purchase,
my observation reviewing end user reports was the most reliable connection between
the PC computer and the Car is to keep everything "cabled" VS Bluetooth (OBDLinkMX) or WiFi

I've had no problems with a Windows 10 PC, the USB Cabled "Stardiag" brand ELM327 Box (from Alfissimo),
and Chi-Com Cables from Ebay on our 2012 Fiat 500 Sport or 2018 Alfa-Romeo Stelvio Sport Q4

I don't know if you consulted with the Multiecuscan HELP Manual, but this may help when
manually configuring your Ports and Interface Speed within "settings":

    3. This is the serial port speed at which the interface works.
The usual speed setting for the different interfaces is:
    - ELM 327 – 38400
    - OBDKey – 9600
    - Bluetooth (all) – 115200
    - ELMScan 5 – 115200
    - OBDLink – 115200
    - CANtieCAR – 115200

Well, I have tried AlfaOBD without success. In fact, I had to manually exclude it from the Norton 360 scan which thought it was a virus.

What is this checkbox for a Blue Adapter Cable for?

That check box refers to using the Blue Cable - (Used for Headlights)

For a majority (99.9%) of your use, you should be using the Yellow Cable

Black plug into OBD2 Port, Colored plug into ELM327 which then should be USB cabled to a Windows 10 PC

PS - You don't mention it in POST 1, so I'll just throw it out there.
For Multiecuscan to work/communicate, you must purchase and then register it.
The free version does NOTHING - it's a simulation showing you what screen shots look like.

Thanks for the help everyone. I need to get the diagnostic done quickly so I can fix the car so I bit the bullet and bough an iCarsoft CR Pro.

    No problem.

I hope you bought it from Amazon - for their easy return policy - just in case...

Let us know how it works & good luck!
