One year ownership update (1.4T Manual)

Just to try to keep this section alive, I figured I would give an update as I approach a year of ownership with my 500X.

First off, I have owned WAY too many cars over the past 23 years of driving. Actually, I am embarrassed to say how many. It was fun but, as I get older, I am seeing how much money I have blown that could have gone to savings/house/etc.

Most cars I have owned have been pretty small. I had a bunch of Neons - turbo and non turbo (don't knock em till you drive the right one), a modded Sonic turbo, a 96 Civic GSR swap, modded Abarth, modded Focus ST, etc etc. Looking back, the cars I miss the most weren't the fastest, but the ones that made my daily drive more enjoyable. I have been with the same company for 20+ years and the drive to and from work can help the monotony of a job.

A quick example is the Focus ST vs the Abarth. I traded in the Abarth for the ST because I was putting my kid in the back a few times a week and was convinced the ST would be a perfect car for me, while being more safe and practical. Well, it didn't take me long to regret that move. I started modding that car to help the dull feeling it had. The ST could no doubt out-perform the Abarth in every way, but I was never happy driving it. I didn't even make it a year with that car before selling it to Carmax. My biggest regret was not buying the Fiesta ST I had originally planned on getting.

I bought a cheap car (Neon lol) to save a little money and when I was ready to get something newer, the X was on the top of the list. I would have gone with Renegade with the manual, but they were $3-5k more and I liked the looks of the X better.

I have very few complaints with the X and it has been an excellent daily driver. I have been able to fit all of our small kids (3, 6 and 8) a few times when needed but, obviously, it is pretty tight. I have never been a fan of SUVs or CUVs, but the X is a pretty good compromise in space vs overall size. It doesn't look or feel very large. Park it next to any newer SUV and it looks tiny. I am still planning to lower it a little.

The X stock was fun to drive for this type of vehicle. Modified it is a blast. I loved the Abarth sound and personality. I can't make turns like I did in the Abarth but the sounds it makes definitely reminds me of it. I am looking forward to a real tune to wake it up to at least stock Abarth power/weight ratio.

As far as gas mileage, the X has been great. I drive on back roads and that is the best for this car. I have driven to VA from GA a few times and that was the worst MPGs I have gotten. It doesn't like speeds over 70, even with the 6 speed. 55-65 is optimal and I drive that speed about 50% of my drive daily. According to my Fuel Log app, I have averaged 30.76 over 14k miles. The car's calculated average was over 33, so it is a little optimistic. I definitely don't hypermile, but I do drive like an old man 80% of the time. Plus, I rarely use the AC.

As far as issues, I have had two minor ones. First there is a high pitched wind noise at the driver's window area. It has driven me a little crazy through the winter, but don't think about it with the weather being windows down temps. I hate dealers, especially with warranty issues and there are no dealers close to me. If I can find some wind deflector that work, I think it will solve the issue.

The other is a vibration at idle. I bought the car with 7k miles and I assume the previous owner wasn't best with the clutch. I assume the side mounts need to be replaced. When I swapped out the rear Deyeme mount, the vibration changed in a good way. It is still there but doesn't really bother me. I am sure once the passenger's side mount is replaced I will be happy. On a side note I HIGHLY recommend the Deyeme mount.

Last note...regrets purchasing? Not really. The only thing I think about is the Fiesta ST that got away. The Focus was my first Ford I had ever owned. I wonder if the Fiesta would have been perfect for me and left me with a different feeling towards Ford in general.

Sorry for the long post...just bored on a Saturday morning, so figured I would try to get this board a little traffic.
