Trying to diagnose CEL P0299, P0456, and P0457 http://www.fiat500usaforum.com/showthread.php?38317-Trying-to-diagnose-CEL-P0299-P0456-and-P0457&goto=newpost Thu, 22 Jul 2021 21:01:58 GMT Hello! Hello! I have a 2013 fiat 500 Abarth that is running a EC phase 2 tune. I purchased the car with most of the modifications already done to it. I have pretty much everything essential to run phase 2. All I’m missing is just the big turbo upgrade which I’m soon planning to pull the trigger on once I sort the current issues that are going on.

Now I’m going to explain what I’ve been dealing with, in hopes that someone has been going through the same things that I’ve been dealing with. When I first purchased the car, the first CEL light that came on was the P0299 code, and ever since that code came on the car hasn’t been driving properly since. Whenever the car is under wide open throttle it would stutter or hiccup around 5000-6000k rpms. It would only do this if I was in sport mode. In non sport mode the car drives fine, pulls hard all the way to redline and boosts regularly up to 18-19 pounds. In sport mode, I would only get about up to 20-21 pounds of boost. If I was in fourth gear or fifth gear rolling into the boost it would sometimes get to 23-24 pounds. Keep in mind I have a DEPO boost gauge, cause I know that stock boost gauge isn’t quite accurate. I contacted Eurocompulsion through Instagram, and they told me that usually when this code is thrown its always either a leak, or improperly setup waste gate. They also told me that the car should be pushing 25-27 pounds of boost depending on the weather. I bought the silicone vacuum line kit from EC to replace the old lines that were on the car. After I installed those lines, I took the car to a BMW shop that works a lot with the n54 platform. I got a smoke test done to see if I have any boost leaks, and to my surprise there were no leaks coming from anywhere. When I was explaining to the shop what I was dealing with they told me to run data logs and send them to my tuner to see what’s exactly going on, which I’ve yet to do but I’m planning too. I just need to get in contact with EuroCompulsion. They also told me that the silicone lines that I bought were no good, and that they collapse under high boost which I was skeptical of. What’s strange is now whenever I drive the car in non sport mode it goes into limp mode occasionally but it only restricts my boost to 10 psi so the car is still somewhat drivable. If I just turn the car on and off it drives like normal again. What’s interesting to note I’ve had the car go into a limp mode where the car drove so slow, I thought I was going to die on the interstate. It wouldn’t boost past 6 pounds. But that hasn’t happened in a while. It also happens more often when it’a hot outside and I’m driving the car for a prolonged period. As for sport mode now, if I go into WOT the car goes into limp mode very single time restricting my boost at 10 pounds. At this point, I haven’t even been using sport mode at all since the car does not like it.

Now that I know I’m not dealing with a boost leak, I need to check out my waste gate like EC suggested. They told me to figure out the crack pressure, and adjust the preload on it if need be. I’ve yet to do this, and I hope this solves my problems.

Now to address the other CELs. The P0456 code which is a small EVAP leak has accompanied the P0299 code recently. The whole EVAP/PCV system on our car is atrocious. If need be I’ll replace everything if necessary. I just want these codes to go away so my car can run healthy again. I just don’t know if this code is popping up in association with the P0299 code. As for the P0457 code, I bought a gas cap from Mopar with a key lock in hopes that it would fix this code however it’s still popping up. If anyone has any information to share, it’s greatly appreciated. I just want this car running at 100%. Thank you!

Hey all

I started having some shifting issues two days ago and Ive been out of a functional Fiat since

I shifted (hard I will admit) into first the other day and got stuck in second gear. I took apart the head shifter and saw that the bottom cable linkage had become detached from the shifter. I attached it back and all was good until I was on my way home and it popped out again. Someone recommended greasing the ball that pops in the socket so I tried that but it popped back out. I also think I read about someone super gluing those pieces together so they dont come apart so Im not sure which one is right. I noticed the previous owner installed a madness short shift adapter so I was thinking that was the problem. I took out the adapter (and broke it getting it out of course) and the issue happened again while test driving it around. It seems like the bushing needs to be replaced but any research Ive done shows people replacing the bushing on the transmission end, not the other end. What do I do? Is that verticals metal linkage a separate part or has anyone replaced the bushing on it? Thanks in advance

ps, picture attached is what Im referring to. This is after I popped it back together
