Question Engine oil for 2013 500 Abarth

I know to use 5w-40 synthetic oil, but what brand is the group using? Mobil 1 ESP Formula M 5W-40, Castrol EDGE Formula 5w-40, etc......

I found an earlier post by Abarth_Guy on 08-20-2012 that answered my question.

You cannot go wrong with Rotella T!
Its one of the best oils available and super cheap.

Thanks deathshead. You're right about that oil. Others are using it as well. But I may go with the Castrol EDGE SYNTEC Formula 5w-40. It has better specs than the other brands that I've been reading about. The AMSOIL European Car Formula Full-SAPS synthetic 5w-40 is the second runner. They are a little high than the Rotella T.

Majority are using or intend to use Pennzoil Ultra as this is what FIAT is using (and Ferrari) so this is what I will be using as well.

I have set-up auto shipping through amazon to get a case of Pennzoil Ultra Euro 5W-40 delivered every 5 months. So, in 10 months I will have 3 oil changes worth of oil . I received my first case and will be changing the oil today. Many people get concerned that it is not stamped with the API sunburst, however this oil surpasses it anyway. It does say so on the back of the bottle. It is pricey oil, but not unreasonable with the auto ship discount....about $7.50 bottle with free shipping.

Any quality API Full Synthetic 5W-40 will work just fine. The Chrysler material standard expressed in the owner's manual is ahead of the testing needed. Many oils should already be exceeding it. I have sent communications to Fiat Customer Care to ask for more clarity on this topic.

Pretty much any modern synthetic is great oil these days and will work great.
However I like the Rotella T synthetic becuase it has extra detergents and zinc wear additives.
for the price it cant be beat, I usually get it for around $15-17 bucks a gallon on sale at walmart, they always carry it.

save the money for an oil extractor and you can do twice the oil changes

I did that a while back. Basically they came back with any API certified oil of the proper viscosity, full synthetic, is OK.
