    strange oil change notification

I recently got the notification to change my oil. Thought it was a bit early (<3700 miles) but it's been autocrossed for 30 runs or so plus normal driving plus it's the original oil so I made an appointment to have it changed for next week. Now the message and notification are gone. Was this a "just fooling" thang or should I keep the appointment? I didn't do the reset procedure before someone asks...

Can't hurt to have the oil changed. Maybe you are right on the line of when the light comes on. You can have the service department document the light came on and then went off, just in case you have issues later on ( I wouldn't say anything about the autocross). My Prima Edizione's light came on at around that mileage with normal driving.

Yeah, that's pretty much what my train of thought was. I'll call service and see what they say, too.

I was under the impression that the oil change indicator light only takes into account the miles driven (or perhaps elapsed time too?), not how hard you have driven your car or the condition of the oil etc...

No, it is duty cycled based. Read this thread:

    From that thread:

If the engine control module is re-programmed, the values used to calculate this is lost, so the first indication will come on 3,500 miles from that point. As long as there’s no loss in battery power or re-programming, the software will again, go through the process to determine the duty cycle.

I wonder if this is due to my PCM update from a few weeks ago. In any event, I called service and will take it in Monday. There's a note attached to my record about the disappearing notification.

I had my PCM recall update done at ~3300 miles and a day later disconnected the battery for ~36 hours while I did some other work on the car. My oil change notification came on a few days later at roughly 3700 miles and now 300 miles and one week later, it is still lit and waiting for me to perform the oil service. If I've correctly interpreted the text from the other article, my car defaulted to the severe duty cycle change interval of 4000 miles because of the reprogram/disconnect and not because of that Freak Out track day where our top speeds regularly topped 100 mph?

My light came on about 3400 miles, without autocrossing. They changed the oil.

Thanks for pointing this out, I didn't know that. Will have to see what the PCM re-flash will do to the duty cycle.
