Aftermarket wheels and TPMS

I am getting ready to order aftermarket wheels for my Abarth, and I am wondering what happens with the TPMS system when you dont have stock wheels? Is it simply non-functional, or is there something you have to do to keep the warning light from coming on? Better yet, can it be used with aftermarket wheels? Thanks!

I bought a set of tire-pressure sensors and s/s valve stems from Tirerack for my new 3-season setup. I think they were about $175.00 delivered. The original wheels will now be used for my winter tires (Blizzaks).
