    Anybody AX-ing a POP?

Or even AX-ing at all ? Looks like this forum has been quiet.

I am setting my '17 POP up for autocrossing and some HPDE stuff this year.

New springs, ST rear sway are going on shortly and a set of 15x7 wheels with some 205/50 /15 200 rubber are going on order shortly.

I am definitely not looking to win anything, my old AX trophies are gathering dust been away from it for 16 years or so, just looking to have some fun with our 500.

I’ve been very competitive at autocross in my Abarth. There’s a local that runs his sport (with Abarth springs).

I have about the most modified NA Sport you could have and had thought about trying AX again. When I first got involve with AX 50 years ago most courses were set up in shopping center parking lots and the courses were very tight. The Austin-Cooper Mini were the fastest cars. Now all the clips I've seen of AX, the courses have sometimes several long straights. From what I've been told the mods done on my car would put it in one of the fastest classes so, if I try AX again it would be just for the fun of it.

I am running a local PCA event tomorrow in my buddy's Miata get me back on the horse while I get the car set up. Been about 16 years since my last AX event, used to be pretty active in an MR2 and then a Miata.

Hopefully have the 500 up to speed early next month, may do an SCCA event in my Civic for giggles in the meantime.

Please reference the Rollover Potential Guidelines and Appendix A - Automobile Classes.

The only FIAT 500 allowed to compete in Street Class (SCCA) is the FIAT 500 ABARTH.

You mention HPDE.... please add a roll bar and properly sanctioned seats and 5 Point Harnesses. Your 500 POP is a rollover hazard in race conditions.

I don't mistrust what you posted but, my Sport is lowered, has wheel spacers, a roll bar, and 5-point harnesses and less top heavy as an Abarth. So, it may be listed as a rollover hazard by the rules but, in reality not as much as a stock Abarth. I've been told my mods would put the car in a lot higher class. I had been told by other drivers at Twisted Sisters they wouldn't change anything on my car because of how well it corners. Anyway it is so far for me to drive to an AX ,I may never try it again. Too busy trying to get the Jaguar on the road.

I appreciate your concern, pretty acquainted with SCCA rules, I use to help run NYR SCCA Solo oh 20 years ago so that was the first place I looked. I'd be looking at STS class-wise which allows the n//a 500 if properly setup height to track width. As for HPDE if I take it to that level I would of course make whatever mods were necessary. I am not looking to any head to head with this car.

It all depends on the technical inspector. That's why I said check with that group prior to registering.

Even though the national office has cleared the 500 ABARTH for Street Class it doesn't mean the local region has cleared the 500 ABARTH or standard 500.
I have personally measured several stock 500 ABARTH's and they do not meet the Rollover Potential Guidelines and were denied entry into events.
