On Facebook. I have hundreds of good friend, all over here, and over seas. I’ve never had issues
With Facebook. I use it ever day. I reunited with friend I have seen in many year. My
50th high school reunion is coming up. Over 800 students graduated. Facebook has been
Extremely instrumental in locating class members.
I also never had issues, but they were an application that definitely isn't free of them, like the OP stated. As years go by, service from these apps typically gets worse and worse. They typically start as a very free and open space and as years pass most end up adopting some weird algorithms and monetization schemes, filling their pages with ads, even posting suggestions to things you'd never even care about with almost no ability to hide them. They just end up getting less user friendly and more money friendly in the long run(which isn't always a bad thing, per se), then they spiral out and die and a new one takes its place.
They have their uses like you mention, but for me, they end up getting more annoying than useful. Instagram is teetering that line too, but luckily it still passes the time well enough for me.
Sure, they are fine until they aren't. It is the stuff that goes on behind the scenes. They monitor everything you do. Have profiles of your likes and dislikes, what they think are your political leanings, etc. Plus, the eavesdrop on all your conversations (private, too) in the name of "community standards."
I've had a friend banned because he used the word "kill" on a gamming page. I have a friend who is a florist and they shut her page down because she drew a diagram of flower meanings. They shut down the page claiming it was a secret language. Which since 1840 has been referred to as "the secret language of flowers". The censorship and arbitrarily removing pages and posts are out of control. And you can't talk to or it is near impossible to contact a human being.
It's been 3 days and I'm still waiting for a response. After 13 years, they say my page violates their "community standards". Yet this is my page recommendation from them:
"We're helping you grow your audience because Pages like yours bring people together. Your Page is now in lists where we suggest Pages to new People."
They have a lot of power, influence and money. And it is obviously run like crap. It is not a benevolent giant.

So to follow up, I got Facebook to reinstate my page after 3 1/2 weeks. Even though I had no violations, it is still pretty much a miracle I got to someone and they reversed their screw up. Everything posted online about how to get Facebook to reverse a page removal didn't work and was wrong.
Thanks goes out to all the support and well wishes sent to me while I worked through this nightmare.
Let this be a heads up to everyone who has a community or business or even a personal page. Facebook will remove a page without any cause and without you having any violations. There will be no warning and you will have a hell of a time getting anyone to listen. All your posts and images will be gone. Case closed.

We lost our page over a year ago because we didn’t also have a “personal” page. Never wanted to have one so our business page got shut down. Hasn’t affected us at all and honestly glad I don’t have to mess with them anymore.

That's ridiculous. They are so arbitrary. You have to read through what seems like 100s of pages of how transparent and fair they are, then at the end, they'll have no way to contact them or send you to a contact form that doesn't work. They are so full of it.
Glad you got of there without an impact.
