    Cold start cylinder misfire

2017 Abarth, developed cold start shudder, check engine indicates 3rd cylinder misfire. Restarted a few times and ended misfire. Warm engine runs fine, dealership diagnosed problem and ordered replacement accumulator (?) as warranty fix. Continuing to drive the car after morning cold start cycle, engine runs fine once warmed through the day, waiting for the part to be installed and run a full diagnostics to confirm repair.

Once the misfire is solved I got Koni rear shocks, vented front discs, and pads to install.

Please keep us posted on any updates. Also worth noting, that all 500s need regular spark plug replacement according to the manual. My experience has shown that when they need to be replaced, they really mean it.

Replaced spark plugs & Alfa coil packs at 31k 2 months ago before developing the cold start misfire.

I will update after install of the ordered part(s) and a full diagnostics.

Misfire on a specific cylinder can usually be diagnoses quickly if it's a plug or coil, by changing the plugs & coils to a different cylinder and see if the misfire moves.

If the misfire stays on the same cylinder after moving coils & plugs, it's not usually coils and plugs. At that point once you've eliminated coil/plug with a specific cylinder misfire, then it moves into "probably internal issues". My car had a P0302 2nd cylinder misfire that turned out to be a valve issue. Got worse over time and after about 6 months my exhaust valve destroyed itself, effectively ending my engine. Hopefully that's not the boat you're in. But it being a specific cylinder does tend to restrict the possibilities of a cause once coil/plug/fuel injectors have all been eliminated (and it's not usually fuel injectors, though that's worth a look anyway).

Stopped at the local Fiat “dealer” to check on the “accumulator” arriving, the date has been pushed back, fingers crossed, to July 11th. Not being familiar with the “accumulator” functioning, I asked and learned that there is another term “the brick” which replacement required removing the airbag, cylinder head etc. Days of work that fortunately are under warranty as $3,000 was mentioned as the cost....

Apparently the “accumulator” is part of the hydraulic system that runs the valves. The dealership has done this several times before and knows the work. The Abarth still runs well when warm but I’ve noticed above 3500 rpm there is some hesitation - so I’m keeping the revs down and waiting for 7/11...

Ahhhhhh the multiair brick replacement. Many people have sworn that a bunch of multiair brick issues can be solved with the replacement of the multiair oil screen before actually changing the entire brick.

Interesting, I didn’t make the connection but sounds appropriate, learned of the function of the multiair oil screen early on and bought a replacement just in case and intend to R&R the existing when the “brick” gets replaced.

Considering the extent of the brick teardown, are there any other consumables/belts that could be replaced during the teardown?
The mileage is 31,500 me plugs and Alfa coil packs were replaced less than 2,000 miles ago.
