Question 2019 500e Apple Carplay Recommendations?

    Hi!
    Newbie here.
I would like to replace the standard Uconnect 3 infotainment system with something that supports Apple Carplay.
I would greatly appreciate any suggestions, advice, tips, etc?

    Here are my main questions:
    1. Is the 2019 500e a single-DIN or double-DIN?
    2. What are some units that support Apple CarPlay and have worked with the 500 from this era?
    3. What is needed to retain the steering wheel controls of the radio?
    4. Will the USB connector/charger on the floor be lost?
    5. Recommendations for repair/audio shops in Southern California to install it?

    Grazie!

    Thanks.

Unfortunately, I have not been able to locate posts from folks who have been able to install successful solutions.

I am sure that there are some aftermarket fixes, and I will keep searching.

See what Crutchfield audio, has to offer. They can answer all you question. From steering wheel controls, double din. Installation instructions.
Some of the EV features, on the OEM radio. Will not be available on a aftermarket unit.

Like all modern, integrated computerized cars, it's a real PITA to put in aftermarket kit and not either lose or screw something else up. I couldn't even get FIAT to sell me a factory 2018 headunit so I could have a rear-camera. Geez. No wonder customers looked elsewhere. Anyway - I remember one guy about two years ago who put in a Kenwood I think with reasonable success, but in an Abarth, not a 500e. If I find his name I'll post it.

2017 500 Abarth, manual trans, NAV, Beats, Sunroof, 17" wheels, everything. But no mods. None, nada.

Check your owners manual. If there is any Vital information on the OEM radio. You might need.

Your 2019 should be a double din, as is my 2016 Abarth. I put a Kenwood head unit in mine (had a stereo shop do the install) The Kenwood is a DDX9906xr. with a Maestro interface. I changed because I have a large digital music collection in FLAC format and the stock unit won't play FLAC. I have both Android auto and Apple Carplay as well as a backup camera with the Kenwood. All steering wheel controls work and the USB port on the floor works as well as the glove box USB port. You need an adapter to connect the USB (mentioned in the link). The sound quality of the aftermarket head unit is far superior to the stock one. I was planning to change the speakers also, but the sound improvement from the head unit was enough to keep me happy. I might feel different if I had an electric instead of an obnoxious Abarth.
2016 Abarth Rosso: auto, sunroof, nero leather, electronic climate control, no Beats, ATM fmic, DNA chassis braces, Prometeo skid plate, 25mm tubular rear torsion bar, E.C. V. 3 intake, Euro 4th gen halo tail lights, Kenwood Excelon DDX 9906 head unit, 50th Anniversary Abarth wheels, 205/40/17 Michelin Pilot AS4 tires.

    Thanks for all the advice.
I was able to do it and get Apple CarPlay, Android, SiriusXM and the backup camera to work, and integrate it with the steering wheel controls, using a similar solution to HermiAbarth.
    Here are some notes:
    1. For a 2019 500e, I had to replace the factory stereo with an aftermarket unit.
    2. I used a Kenwood DMX-907. Sounds awesome! It is a double-DIN unit, and fits in the space that the factory unit was in.
    3. Integrating with the steering wheel controls required installing a separate "Maestro" hardware interface.
    4. The backup camera works with the new Kenwood unit and display.
    5. The existing SiriusXM receiver could not be used. So a new one had to be installed.
    6. The existing USB port next to the passenger-side cup holder did not work. A new USB port had to be installed, which replaces the cigarette lighter on the driver side of the cup holder.
    7. I was going to try installing it myself, but decided to spend the extra dough, and brought itnto Simon's Car Audio in Los Angeles (4701 Lankershim Ave.). They were excellent, honest and extremely knowledgable. They knew exactly what to do, and the unique quirks of Fiats. I definitely would not have done it all correctly.

It all works fantastic, sounds great, and I already can't remember how I managed to get by without CarPlay, especially for Maps and driving directions.

The down side is that it totalled about $1,500 (ouch!). But it was definitely worth it if you can afford it.
It will add many years to the useful life of my 500e, and feels much, much safer than trying to glance at my phone.

    Thanks again for the advice.
