Abarth brake noise

Hi,

Abarth Brakes making noise at 30k miles.

I replaced front pads and rotors. Greased as specified with provided grease and
did required brake-in. Now, fronts have light grinding sound with light braking, but silent with hard braking.

Untouched rears have 20% meat left. I hear loud, light rotational scraping noise, like pads touching rotors, louder when braking.

I can live with front noise, it shouldn't have to. but got to do something about rears.

What to do?

Take a look at the front and see if something is hanging up. Sometimes aftermarket pads are too tight a fit in the brackeand they can get wedged in. If that's the case you have to file the backing plates so they fit correctly.

As for the rear pads, once they get that low you can get a similar problem with them hanging up due to dirt and rust, etc.

Also cars that don't get driven much are subject to brakes sticking and making noises. Sometimes this goes away the more the car is driven. When my car sits for a while, the rear pads slightly drag briefly until I drive a mile or so. The rotors also get a surface rust that contributes to this. I check my brakes occasionally at stop lights to see if my car rolls freely when easing off the brakes on a nearly flat road. If it doesn't, there is a problem. Brakes that drag, besides killing rotors and pads can also kill wheel bearings from excessive heat.

Another way to check to see if a brake is hanging up is to carefully feel each wheel near the hub after a drive to see if one wheel is appreciably hotter than another. The wheel on the opposite side should be about the same temperature.
