Diesel seems to do that every time gas prices jump around here. Today they are 60 or 70 cents more than regular (20 cents more than premium)... not because diesel came down but because gas jumped. My sister lives in Nashville but a couple loads to the armory brought her into town. Her new semi gets better MPG than the previous... but still sucks down huge fuel bills.

Of course they do get a discount on the pump cost, since Oregon doesn't charge semis a tax at the pump. Instead they pay weight/mileage tax... which usually works out to be even higher than pump price.

Running about $2.00 a gallon higher than Florida. Sam's jumped ten cents today to $4.39 for Regular and $4.79 for Premium.

Just got gas last night. $5.59. Diesel is a dollar more. That's what really concerns me. The people that haul all the things we need are getting killed. Absolutely crazy.
When I was young, diesel was always cheaper, and it was a key reason for owning a diesel engined car. For the past several years, diesel is now a lot more expensive (even before the current spike.)

    Does anyone know what happened?

Diesel spread is higher now due to lack of refining capacity. In fact, most of the price increase is due to the fact the crack spread (price between raw and refined product) is off the hook.

All the construction workers, contractors, bulldozers, excavators, supply trucks in my new neighborhood use $$$ diesel fuel.
The prices of the homes here, have increased in price. Around $200k since we built, a 1 1/2 ago.

The cost is somewhat offset by better mileage and more torque. With Ford's F250, it's around 13 vs 17 MPG, V8 gas vs diesel.

I'm a bit puzzled by the diesel drivers here in town. Main Street is 35 MPH and traffic generally flows at 37-38. Since gas prices went up, I've noticed an increase in guys weaving thru traffic in their "big rigs" at 50 MPH... and a reintroduction of some "rolling coal" trucks. I suppose it's a status symbol or a "s**** you" to gas companies to run 12 MPG. I'm sure big-oil is really crying over the protest.

Meanwhile, my 500 has been knocking down >35 MPG this year. That's decent mileage for in-town driving and much better than I expected. If I could harvest the smoke screen laid down by the Ford PU (yesterday) I wouldn't need to buy gas.

Just got gas on the 10th. Went up 34 cents in 2 weeks. Glad I only get 9 gallons or so. I deal with guys who own tractor trailers. The cost is killing them.

I got regular for my Jeep yesterday for $4.59 a gal here in Va. Cheapest I've seen lately. I still had half a tank but, at that price I decided to fill up anyway.

Some years back the Feds put a twenty five cents per gallon tax only on diesel. I think that was when they decided diesels were more detrimental to the environment than the sulphuric acid that catalytic converters spit out.
