    Welp, Got My First Problem

After 8 years of trouble free ownership, a tire sensor went dead.

    Any options appreciated.

I got mine from Tire Rack when I bought my wheels back in 2011. They were 433MHz Tire Pressure Sensor in black

    Manufacturer Part #:56029398AB

I'm afraid to say it, but they are still kicking.

I'm surprised the price differences. $114 (1) at the dealer, $38 (1) at TR, or a set (5) for $50 on Amazon.

They are supposed to last 6-8 years for most cars, but only come on when the tire is spinning... so maybe longer on a car that isn't driven a lot?

I remember back in 2013-14ish getting a set of the cheaper sensors either from Amazon or eBay and the car didn't like them. Someone else i knew did aftermarket wheels and sent me the link to another set that were about $20-30 more and so i ordered those and had them installed and they worked. So i'd be nervous about the 5 for $50 at Amazon deal.

You have to make sure the sensor supports the correct frequency which is 433MHz for the 500s (124 is different as it uses the Mazda frequency). Other than that it's hard to go wrong.

Maybe that's why mine lasted. My car sits a good 4 months out of the year.

I'd get name brand like Schrader. Also, I bet a place like Tire Rack gets frequent shipments of fresh stock, so you don't have to worry about getting something that sat around.

Mine are still good, going on 11 years now. One tire replacement too. 6 years ago. The passenger front one always give me false readings.
That’s been like that since brand new. The sensors batteries are only suppose to last 5-6 years. Already replaced the ones on a newer Honda.

I was impressed that Fiat used the direct TPMS system instead of the less accurate indirect. The next gen of these will be more complicated, depending on what car makers decide. Some also measure tire temperature (BMW / Michelin) and they are working on systems to detect tire damage and/or pot holes. In theory, the dude ahead hits a pot hole and your car is warned and its automatic systems steer around the hole.

The only thing I like about the Fiat tire sensor, compared to my other cars. You fill the car tires up the the right pressure. The system will reset itself after a couple miles of driving. My other cars, there is a rest button you have to push. My wife always has trouble finding. What wrong with the 2012 500’s. It doesn’t Indicate which tire is low, or what pressure the tires are in. The Honda’s and Kia do that. To me the TPMS are just a nuisance. First one we had on a car, was back in 2007.

The tire stores, have a device. That can see which sensor is bad.

I just saw that. You get info relayed on tire temp and pressure in real time.

Another thing to break down and replace for $2000.
