    143k pop mile service

I have a 2013 500c pop and it just passed 143k miles. It is time to give it a good service after showing age. A lot of little things have also been pushed back since I havent had the time or ooace to do anything at college. I want to make the most of the summer time to make it bullet proof again. The main thing is the timing belt. I was wondering if there is a guide or service bulletin that tells how to do this without all the extra stuff. It seems relatively simple and just need the mopar kit to lock the cam and engine in time. Is this easily done at home and what else should be done with this ( any where from water pump and ither things to do with such high milage)

There is some great advice on the site about the procedure. The first link shows the tool in place, the second has a video. For additional links you might Google "timing belt site:http://www.fiat500usaforum.com/". You can also purchase a short term TA subscription at techauthority.com. (Sorry, but there aren't any reliable free books online.)

Generally one buys a belt kit, containing the belt, water pump, and idler pulley. I haven't replaced a 500 timing belt, but I would generally replace the crank seal, fan belt and fan belt idler on cars while it's apart... but that's optional. I'd also give the alternator an inspection to make sure the bearings are still in good shape. (There's nothing worse than doing this job then having to do it all again in 20K miles.) While you are at it, it's a great time to give the engine a "once over" inspection, checking components like engine mounts, etc. If the passenger side engine mount isn't 100%, I'd replace all 3 mounts.

As you know, inspect the new parts when they arrive before tearing the car down. On jobs I do, I personally prefer to buy name-brand parts from a trusted source.

Holy crap, besides your aftermarket wheels, my daughter's pop is the same color combination.

I’ve changed the timing belt, on a couple Hondas we owned in the past. My brother
Showed me how, on his V6 Accord. Along with the belt, I replaced the water pump,
and the idlers. Replaced all the accessory belts. New antifreeze.

    Good Luck, on your repair.
