Hit a deer, it's a total, it was a great car while it lasted...

I'm losing my 2012 Abarth to a total loss judgement by my insurance company after hitting a deer while driving from Atlanta to Huntsville.

It was a good car for me. When I purchased it in the Spring of 2012 I was pretty excited to get it, I never would've guessed that almost 10 years later I'd still be in love with it.

Amazingly, the car still ran after hitting the deer, no leaks in the cooling or in the intercooler plumbing. But so many items were damaged that it all added up to a total loss judgement.

(The deer wrapped around the entire front end. The front hooves impacted the right-front quarter panel and the rear hooves hit the driver's side door below the rear view mirror)

    Bro, that sucks.

I'm having to commute 60 miles on a rural highway before dawn..... I hit a deer in September in my 124 spider. It was minor as he only caught the edge and I'd slowed a bit, but it still put it in the body shop.

I was swapping between my two vehicles on my days (I alternate days with a carpool buddy). Now having to do it in only my 15 500 Abarth and just hoping it doesn't happen again.

Those who claim you can do something to avoid hitting a deer have never had one run full tilt in front of you on a dark highway. I had someone tell me I should have honked at it to make it move ... wtf

(Don't watch the following video if flashbacks/PTSD of deer running in front of you is a thing)

That too bad, glad that your okay. It looks like your 500 is made out of tin foil.

My wife hit a deer 5 years ago, in her 2007 Honda Fit.In the day light, suburban neighborhood. Since the Fit has the highest resale value of any model car. Allstate was going to fix it. The glass company who removed the windshield, scratch the hell are the dashboard. To replace the dashboard meant the passenger airbag. They then totaled it. My wife wasn’t so upset about the car. It when the police, has to shoot the deer. To put it out of its Misery.

Looks to me like it’s mostly a hood and a fender and a few lights. I’d be at the wrecking yard collecting parts after getting paid off and would keep the car.

lmao Are you seeing the same photos as me?

    *edit*to include sarcasm*

Yes, head to a wrecking yard and cut the perfect condition, correctly colored fiat 500 abarth you find into two pieces, straight across from door shut to door shut, graft on the front half to your trashed car...there, you're all set haha

To the Op. Im curious, with that much damage to your Abarth. Did any of the airbag, deploy? Dollar wise, how much was the damage to fix.

Ohh man, that sucks! Sorry to see your car go like that. Hope you are alright after that.

We've got deers all over place, running through my yard and everywhere else. It's ridiculous driving home at night. They are unpredictable and it's inevitable you hit one around here. I had one running besides me in my Audi and then all of a sudden it takes a 90 left into my quarter panel. I've had a friend get one through her windshield and land in her back seat. Crazy!

Are you thinking about getting another one?

Yes I am. And theres only one photo to go by. And I certainly dont see any grafting either. Need to see under the hood and in person. Auto body shops often list pieces and procedures that dont really need to be done other than money in their pockets. Will it be a new car? Of course not but OP says it still drove. Need descriptions of actual damage to parts.

    No sarcasm here.

Sorry for your loss. Just from visible damage, I expect that's $6K in repairs. If the frame tweaked, a total loss.

Here's hoping the insurance company doesn't low ball your payout.

That makes me wonder, what does the FIAT500USA Forum membership think would be a fair value for a 2012 Abarth with 65,000 miles, in average/fair condition inside and outside (it was always used as a daily driver)?

I would appreciate any input, let me know what you think the value would be.

(I already have a value estimate from the insurance people and I'd like to see if their valuation is close to what this forum membership thinks)
