I knew that some cars had tensioners, but had never heard of these before. "Seat belt inflator is also known as micro gas generator (MGG), which is a gas-generating device used for a mechanism in which the seatbelt is tightened in the case of a motor vehicle collision. When the seatbelt is tightened, the body of the occupant is affixed in the correct position and is aligned with the airbag. This enhances the effectiveness of the airbag, thereby ensuring the safety of the passenger."

Why am I not reassured when the mfgr says not to worry they'll explode on their own?

That a heck of a recall. Worst then Pintos exploding. Audis that have unattended acceleration.
Ford explores with fire stone tires. Wheels that fall off a brand new introduced model.

    Oh what A feeling Toyota!

Below is a Subaru engine being built up at the factory. I believe it is an EJ20 STI engine. Lots of hand assembly.

Really. Compared to other videos I've seen, this is bloody primitive. This is more like an apparel factory than a modern engine building facility.

This is why Subarus, I have a really good resale value. Compared to other brand out there.
Got to love those boxer engines.

Remember the first rule in automotive journalism:

    If it's a recall, it's not a reliability problem.

That's what I was remarking on. Lots of hand assembly for a modern car. I would guess the volume is such it doesn't call for a fully automated assembly. Cool to see people actually assembling an engine. I wonder how the reliability fairs against the automated line?
