    Carbon Fiber Hood

I was thinking about buying one of the lower priced carbon fiber hoods. I can see paying over a grand for one. It's all about dropping weight off the car now. I have no idea what the weight of the OEM hoods is but, I'd guess around 30 lbs. Anyone have one ?

Good quality carbon fiber is expensive. It's one of the reasons (or maybe the only one) that Magneti Marelli didn't offer all the Venom accessories. They supply OEMs like Audi with their CF, so it is top quality but also priced accordingly. Good luck and let us know.

500 madness, offered a really nice one. Is it worth $2k for the enhancement?

Boris installed one on he’s personal Abarth, along with a carbon fiber front bumper. Fade the body color paint into both of them.

Agreed. Carbon fiber is more about style than weight reduction. The factory hood is already pretty light at 30 or 35 lbs (and I doubt venders who claim shedding half that weight). You can go to an aftermarket seat and shed more weight... toss the rear and passenger seat and shed around 100 lbs.

Ironically, I read comments from one (other make) owner who said his "carbon fiber" hood weighed 10 lbs more than stock.

A good quality cf hood will run more than a grand it looks like. It is a never ending quest to get weight off the car. I have after market seats, rear seat delete, 13 lb. wheels, rear wiper delete, and a 4 and 1/2 pound Antigravity battery. A CAI that got rid of that ton of plastic oem air filter. I also got rid of the oem seat/ shoulder belts and went with custom 5 point harnesses. I have a mill and I'm waiting on a lathe that should be here in two weeks. I have a tig welder so I can duplicate oem part in aluminum when possible.

lol I can relate. You can pretty much strip the NA 500 before we'll get down to the weight of the EU model. They don't seem particularly chuffed with safety and such stuff. If you off yourself in an accident, it's one less car cluttering up the motorway.

I think that's why some of the craziest MC vids of people challenging cars come from Europe.
