Here is a gentle reminder to check those wiring harnesses for worn down points that may ground out and arc...





The loom for my Accessory Cooler Pump had been very dry rotted, near as we can tell the wires eventually rubbed through on the hose clamp and ignited when I parked this morning.

New parts will be here Tuesday. Then pulling the car apart to replace them.

If I hadn't sat in my car gathering my lunchbox/backpack/water bottle and then noticed the smell this could have been an entirely different post.

Replacement pump came in, and was installed without issue!

I actually hadn't started the car before we were ready to go into the shop, and had an extinguisher handy.

Much to my relief, not a single light or code appeared.

We still gave it a deep scan in the shop to see if there was anything not triggering the light, but nothing to be found.

As far as stories that start with "my car is on fire" go, I'd say this is best case scenario.

I was just thinking about this when I got home from work tonight and was listening to my pump run. I think I may park a little farter away from my house from now on! Glad it turned out OK for you.
