Alpine ILX-W650 install question

I'm thinking about installing the Alpine ILX-W650 with the Spiral KT-FI001PB dash kit in my 2015 Fiat 500. The Alpine is a short/shallow radio. Would you have to cut the vents to make the dash kit work? I would think that you could just cut and shorten the cage on the Spiral KT-FI001PB and then add the deflectors to the vents.

Thoughts/ideas?

From what I have seen, you will have to cut the vents even if the unit is shallow. There MIGHT be a good alternative coming to market this summer from Pioneer.

Excellent to see Pioneer got to work on this (Pioneer modular solutions in-dash receivers). Out of the box, the head unit can be 12” away from the screen, mounted at any angle the cable will reach. For an extra $100 (which is a bit of a ****e move, since this is the whole purpose of the design in the first place), Pioneer sells a 1.5m extension cable, which should solve any mounting problem.

The Pioneer sounds like it would be the perfect radio, but I need to get something now. I really want Carplay. The only other options I found were single din Carplay units like the Boss BE10ACP (not a fan of the brand) which is a great price at $329, or the more expensive Alpine Halo9 ILX-F309 for $999

Is the radio in your 2015 500, a single din unit? Looks like that unit will cover your AC vents, when in use.

Yes it's a single din. Some of the radios adjust up or down.

Check out the Alpine ILX-207. Its got a double din face, but the body is a single din behind the face, so you probably won't need to cut up the vents. Downside is its double the price at $599

Its got apple carplay/android auto.

The price of that dash kit is creeping down slowly but it's still way overpriced for what you get. Insultingly overpriced. It used to be over $200.

I have the kit in my Abarth, unfortunately I had to mod it for the larger format Chinese double dine (178mm vs 173mm) so now I can't switch to 173mm without buying a new kit
