    WEEKEND GUIDE AT A GLANCE
    THURSDAY - FRIDAY
Welcome back to the original Spring FIAT on the Dragon! This year we’re going to have more options and more roads than ever before. If you are driving a classic FIAT, we have options for you that are not as long and hard on the cars. Organized activities include spirited and casual sightseeing drives on the famous Tail of the Dragon and popular area roads, organized meeting times, bonfires, sunrise drive, social times at Talley Ho’s big field and parking lot, Thursday meeting at the Abbey for beer, and of course lots of FIATs and Alfa Romeos! There is no better way to have fun with your FIAT or Alfa Romeo!
    April 29 - THURSDAY Arrival
Check‐In + Meet & Greet at the Talley Ho Inn, Townsend, TN. When you first arrive, check in to your hotel first, then come say hi to the registration team at the Big House on the Talley Ho Inn property. Park in the lot or in the grassy field at the Talley Ho Inn. Our group has special permission to use the field for our event. Once you have checked in, head over to the Abbey and meet others for a pizza and beer.
5:00–9:00pm - Pick up registration packets at the Talley Ho Inn at The Big House
Dinner is on your own Thursday or meet others at the Abbey for pizza and beer.
    April 30 - FRIDAY Activities
Watch for the classic FIAT 500 icon for classic car friendly drives. Classic FIATs are welcome on all of our drives, but some are longer than others so plan accordingly.
Organized Drives: Choose a drive for each day.
6:00am - Short Sunrise Drive - New Foothills Loop
Arise bright and early to do this sunrise drive. This drive will cover the new Foothills Parkway extension above Townsend for great scenic views. Our sunrise group will be led by Brett Melancon to the top of the mountain overlooking the Townsend valley for sunrise. This is a short drive and is a great option for classic cars. We will leave from the Talley Ho Inn parking lot and return there in time for coffee before the mandatory drivers meeting.
8-8:45am - Pick up registration at the Talley Ho Inn at The Big House
Pick up registration and optional picnic lunches if purchased at the drivers meeting.
Morning coffee & snacks provided by Benson FIAT / Alfa Romeo.
    8:45am - Mandatory Drivers Meeting
Meet in the grass at the Talley Ho Inn for drive instructions. Have this flyer with you and be familiar with the contents. The first organized group will leave starting at 9:15am sharp. Optional shorter drives will be available on-your-own with maps provided in your registration packet. Read over maps prior to drivers meeting. Cell service is limited on most drives. Use coordinates QR codes provided and GPS for directions; these maps are for reference only.
9:15am - Tail of the Dragon/Cherohala Skyway Drive & Dragon loop
The traditional Tail of the Dragon run will leave the Talley Ho and head to Deal’s Gap. We
will stop along the way at the 129Hub to organize our group, grab souviniers and a drink/
bathroom break. When you are ready to go, head up to the Tail of the Dragon and enjoy.
We will be doing a picnic lunch at the top of the hill-climb road at around noon. If you don’t
wish to picnic or in case of rain, you can choose to do lunch at Tapoco Lodge. Either choice
is great. After lunch, there will be a group that splits off and drives the Cherohala Skyway
weather permitting. Friday is the best day to do the Dragon so enjoy. For those who do both the Dragon and the Skyway, we will be meeting at 5pm for dinner at the 129Hub (others cab join as well).

    WEEKEND GUIDE AT A GLANCE
    FRIDAY - SATURDAY
9:30am - Foothills Parkway Loop to Cades Cove & Area Roads (Aprox 65 Miles)
This is a new addition to our drives and is more relaxed and well suited to those who like the more laid back and scenic drive options. This organized drive will leave the Talley Ho Inn and follow the new part of the beautiful Foothills Parkway extension and then wind down to the Cades Cove entrance. From there, you can go to the Cades Cove loop (one way traffic) or turn back
and explore the mountain roads in the area. From this point, the group will be “on-your-own” driving. A good lunch option would be to drive up to Gatlinburg and find a place to eat there or stop for a roadside picnic. The traffic will be heavy in Gatlinburg so be prepared for that.
    5pm - Friday FIAT Dinner at 129Hub
Those who want to meet for dinner at the 129Hub are encouraged to do so. The Tail of the Dragon group will meet here for dinner at 5pm. Following dinner, we will return to the Talley Ho Inn for social time and bonfire.
7:00pm - Friday FIAT Family Social Time at the Ho
Time to socialize and visit friends back at the Talley Ho. Park in the grassy area and enjoy
looking at everyone’s cars and share stories from the days drives. If you are not meeting at the 129Hub, dinner is on-your-own; there are lots of good options available locally. Our traditional bonfire (weather permitting) will be happening on the hotel grounds for those wishing to gather for social time and relaxation. Bring lawn chairs and enjoy the fire under the stars.
    May 1 - SATURDAY Activities
Organized Drives: Choose a drive for each day.
8-8:45am - Last Chance...Pick up registration at the Talley Ho Inn at The Big House
9:30pm - Devil’s Triangle - Tail of the Dragon Mega Drive! (Aprox 200 Miles)
The Devil’s Triangle...famous for many things and one of the most challenging, twisty roads around. Weather permitting, this drive will leave the Talley Ho and drive as a group to the beginning of the Devil’s Triangle. We meet at Brushy Mountain Prison for lunch. After lunch, those who dare can follow the lead car for a run on the Tail of the Dragon for the mega drive. You can also choose to take a shorter route back to Townsend. The Devil’s Triangle is the most challenging road in the area and rewards the driver with an experience not soon forgotten.
In the event of heavy rain, alternative roads will be selected for this organized drive.

    WEEKEND GUIDE AT A GLANCE
May 1 - SATURDAY Activities continued
1pm - Tail of the Dragon Drive Loop
    SATURDAY - SUNDAY
This is a condensed version of the Tail of the Dragon run and is why we all come to FotD. For those who want a shorter Tail of the Dragon organized drive option, this is great. This group will leave the Talley
Ho Inn as a drive to the 129Hub to re-group before hitting the Dragon. Keep a look-out for the Devil’s Triangle group as they will be headed to the Dragon as well. Lunch is on your own picnic style or at the Tapoco Lodge. The 129Hub has amazing burgers if you are in the mood. We will be back to the Talley Ho Inn for the food truck dinner, social time and traditional bonfire. It will be a full day for sure.
6pm - Saturday Evening FIAT Family Social Time at the Talley Ho with Food Truck Feast!
Time to socialize back at the Talley Ho. Park in the grassy area and enjoy looking at everyone’s cars and sharing stories of the days drives. Choose from the menu provided by the food truck and enjoy a casual outdoor dinner with FIAT and Alfa friends and family. We will have our traditional bonfire (weather permitting) on the hotel grounds for those wishing to gather for social time and relaxation. Bring lawn chairs and enjoy the fire under the stars. Who knows, maybe we will do a night drive.
    May 5 - SUNDAY Activities
    On-your-own
Sleep in late, prepare for the trip home or do more drives. Sunday is a great day for driving as the traffic is light on the roads we love.
The Scorpione (approx 100 miles RT - 4.5 hours) Gatlinburg (approx 50 miles - 2 hours)
Cades Cove (approx 25 miles - 2 hours)
Elkmont Loop (approx 25 miles - 2 hours)
Foothills Parkway New Section (approx 1 hour) Metcalf Bottoms (approx 20 miles - 1 hour) Clingmans Dome Loop (approx 100 miles - 3 hours)
Home Base is: Talley Ho Inn 8314 State Hwy 73, Townsend, TN
Scan QR codes or refer to maps included with registration.
    IMPORTANT NOTE:
Be sure to take the time to download the area maps in the Google Maps app so you have maps, even if you don’t have a signal. Refer to the printed maps as well for planning. Remember, be familiar with your route so you do not get lost. It makes the drive much more enjoyable.
When traveling the back roads, remember to stay on your side of the double yellow line. Crossing it can get you a ticket or worse. If someone behind you wants around, use the pull-offs; there are lots of them. When you do pull off, please pull as far in and park as tight as you can to make room for others. Have fun but please obey local speed laws and be safe. Plan fuel stops prior to leaving
hotel as there are limited stops in some areas. Be sure to bring two-way radios as cell service is not guaranteed. Read over map prior to driver’s meeting; cell service is limited on most drives.

FIAT on the dragon is fast approaching. Look through these photos and please, don't be that guy in the Spider who crosses the line. Show your driving skills by controlling your car.

With the pandemic still around. I’m curious how many people will still be attending that rally.

I think the pandemic will have little or no effect on this event. Tennessee is still suggesting that people wear masks, but they're not mandatory. Of course, people who attend events like this are pretty responsible, so I suspect most of us will social distance when possible. But I also suspect many of the attendees, including me and my wife, have been vaccinated so we will not be concerned, especially not to the point of not attending. Most of the time attendees will be alone in their cars and most other times we'll be outside.
