    Good old Jeep product

Our family owned different model Jeeps for years. All of them have had issues. They spent many hour, days, and weeks in the Jeep service department. My daughters has a 2016 Jeep renegade. So far its been a pretty dependable car. Some electrical gremlins. We just moved into our new house. Shes been making trips, hauling stuff, from the old house to the new one. Lots of trips. She was taking a load of stuff, to the salvation Army yesterday. Pushed down on the brakes. Nooooo brakes. She was just about to get on the highway too. Luckily there is. FCA dealership a couple blocks from our old home. Were I bought my 500 at.

Driving over there, really slow. She used the emergency brake to slow the Jeep down. Brake fluid looked like it was coming from the right rear brake. The Jeep just went out of warranty. Very lucky she didnt get on the highway. The service manager is going to try, and see if Jeep will fix it free.

Wow, there's something serious wrong with that Jeep. The brake light should have been on long before the car lost that much fluid and should have still had a pair of brakes working.

That's serious scary. Glad to hear she's OK.

FCA dealership called. A crack rear caliper. Never heard such a thing. Bad casting? The caliper tore up the rotor too. I surprise, she didn’t notice the brake indicator light go off. That would have made a hell of a noise back there. The car would have pulled to the left. Their going to replace both side, and both rotors. The Jeep, has over 60k mile on it now. Seem like she just bought it. Going to cost 900 bills. Ouch.

Found a photo of one on the internet, guess the hydraulic pressure, and break a weak casting.

Oh my god, I hope that she's ok. That's frightening, no car's brakes should fail without giving you a warning. Even though the car is out of warranty, they should be fixing it for free because you could've lost a loved one. I'll be looking out for more cases of this, and see if a recall pops up for this issue. I bet you that it won't be long until you see a recall for this if this happens to more people.

Sorry to hear and glad she is ok. I don't know if it is feasible, but you can go aftermarket and get all that stuff for a lot less and have an independent shop do the work.

For example, the kit below is around $175 (plus refundable core charge) at rockauto. You could likely get the car towed to another place and have the work done and save money. Hope it works out.

Thanks that would have been a good option. She was just lucky to make it the FCA dealership. It was just around the corner. The dealership called, they found something else wrong with the front brakes too. Not sure what. She told me, The brake indicated did go off. Right when the brakes failed. So much for that.

Did she have brake work done recently? When we see caliper damage, a lot of times it comes from brake pads falling out or some kind of physical damage. It's weird to hear about a caliper on a relatively new car break. Sometimes something seizes and breaks, but that's usually something with a lot of miles /time on it.

She has 57K miles on the Jeep. The original brakes have just been fine, till the other day. The dealership, said she had at least another 5-6K pad left on the front ones. She just paid it off, a couple weeks ago too. It’s lucky we have several vehicles, she can drive. She a realtor, and depends on her work car. She racks up a lot of miles on that car. It should be finished tomorrow. It’s very lucky she didn’t get hurt.
