    The EVs are coming

Just got my November 2020 Car and Driver magazine in the mail. Automakers are tooling up dozens of new electric vehicles for the battery powered future. Will Americans buy them. So far out of the current 19 EV model offered here. The Tesla 3 is the top selling one. With over 62,369 unit, so far this year. I dont see FCA offering any future EVs in the next 3 years, here. What up, with that. Most EV in the US, have poor sales. Tesla proved them wrong, with the model 3 sedan.

FCA is probably relying on the credits they purchased from Tesla.

I was hearing from a former car guy who used to value cars and work for Chrysler and also GM he said it could be a gamble.... some thing that just because its big in euro that people are going to buy ev cars here. What the media doesnt tell you many are big lefty countries who are pushing the whole zero emissions thing. I wrote a paper in college talking about how the politics of the left and got into the car business. I am not here to say oh Ev can't be nice cars, but what I am saying its not a totally free market product.

One thing you have to look at is the ev market in euro is very heavy in the government incentives. weather it would be huge taxes or even cash assistants programs. Basically what they used to do in euro with diesel they have replaced with electric cars. I am not one who likes the whole "lets try and replace gas and diesel with electric cars" and what I have seen is many people are telling the public that you can buy a $50-$60k car because you dont need to do any maintenance or repairs.... plus the price to "recharge them is like $0.20. When I sold Infiniti cars back in 2017 I met a guy who has a Tesla model S and X and he has spent like $47k on fixing his cars. he spent like $5,000 in fixing faulty windows, batteries, radio, doors, brakes. It was crazy to me all of the times the company didn't stand behind their product and approve his warranty claim. After hearing that it really got me away from this company..... but somehow people have stories like that and still stick with the company. I just feel like if it was Fiat and people had experience like that people would be calling for Fiat head.

But back to the topic one thing this guy who I am talking about if the ev thing doesnt take off like they thing and it fails one things for sure the value of all of these cars are going to tank, like you haven't seen anything before. Basically a used car will have the value like a salvaged title car. Example the old fisker karma has the same value as if it was salvage title car so 25%-50% of the value of what it should of been if the car company was still around. if you go to the Peterson automotive there are some early cars such as some 1920 Ev and some steam powered cars that did the same. The dealer back then couldn't sell them no matter what. One guy was quoted of saying about the ev I couldn't even sale this car if I sold it for the same price of a turkey sandwich. Its true no-one wants a deal format or technology. Moving on to what fiat is trying to do in the USA..... well I think they will have more model then jeep or Ram. All it seem like FCA does these days is Ram, jeep or SRT. I think the problem with FCA is there need more normal person cars. Need to bring more alfa Romeo, Fiat and Chrysler and dodge products.

As I have been saying for a while on this forum if FCA had more models for Fiat I know they would buy them.... one of the problems why people have left fiat is they dont feel like there is enough models to support they lifestyle. if a young couple want to start a family there isn't really much options only a Fiat 500x or 500L if they feel like they want something a little bigger then there isn't much for them. I had a chat with Alex on Autos what he said eh would like to see fiat have more of a lineup then they do and the Ram promaster should be Fiat's and this what he said they should do......"Make them Fiat Professional vans based on the promaster and promoter city. Also offer something rare a little luxury make them have more HP and towing and payload, but also have them have features like the 500x has 7 or 8 inch uconnect... premium audio, leather and heated seats . Make the midsize truck not a ram but a Fiat as a Fiat Turo changed the front end and make it body on frame so it can do more payload and towing make some changes so its more American then the one in the sound American market. One thing that I have a problem is I think the FCA management is not taking care of the Fiat brand here in the USA they so want the dodge and jeep and FCA brand to do well.

The current boss of FCA is what I have heard is a Jeep or Ram guy so he is going to drive the fiat brand into the ground. I think what should happen is massive amounts of firing. Their a company with many brands.... figure out what Fiat, Ram, Jeep, Chrysler, Dodge, Alfa Romeo should be. SO if you want what used to be a near luxury brand aka Chrysler well give the dealership cars to sell that are similar to the jeep or dodge product line.

If you want fiat to be the reasonable priced fun brand like the 500 was and the 124 spider should be then well do that. give it a full range of model so that people can stay loyal to the brand. I would like to see a 500, 500 3 door, a Jetta size sedan,500X 500XL(a bigger 500x) a 500L, Fiat toro(midsize truck) 124 spider and also a 124 spider L(with a back seat). I think that jeep is fine, ram is fine. With alfa Romeo well you should add many models ad a sports coupe to go along the likes of c class, 425i, Infiniti Q60 and such.... Then also I think it would be good to have a GLA size CUV, and midsize SUV, and a full size suv(I dont know if there are going to go there but its a trend). my two favorite cars I have ever owned was Fiat 500 and Infiniti QX56. Anyways that what. I think....

Most everything on that list is a very expensive "halo" car for their manufacturers. The few that are reasonable in cost are still 20 to 40% more expensive than their ICE counterparts with miserable range. Yes, the electric car revolution is coming but mainstream, affordable, great range and short charging time is not available in the current list. The idea of using rare earth materials to make the batteries doesn't make sense to me. They are rare in nature and thus cannot support a world of fully electric vehicles. i want the Earth to breath easier for all of us but forcing a very expensive and temporary option on the public doesn't make sense to me.

Electrics have come a long ways. I found myself following a Think City this afternoon. I had to go back and look them up... first models sold for around $43K, $48,600 in today's money. That seems so long ago, but was 2012.
