Air cleaner box broken during air filter change. Common?

I am a brand new member. I own a 2017 500X . No real problems until recently. The air cleaner box broke at the entrance of one of the recirculation lines from the engine. Very weak spot that get stressed during the air filter change. I am trying to find out if this is a common/flaw design problem or something unusual just happening to me.

Has anybody experienced the same problem? Thanks.

I haven't heard of this before. I'd contact your dealer to find if it is covered under warranty. (Probably not unless it was a defective part.)

If you 500x is still under warranty run it by the Fiat dealership. They might replace it free, unless it looked like it’s been muscle off. Could just be a flimsy part.

    Good Luck, with your findings.

You can avoid breaking this connector by taking the top of the airbox and using one of the rear screws on the top of the box, catch the screw on the rear weather stripping on the rear of the engine compartment. The top cover will remain there untill your done. Its the only way to get the cover out of the way without undoing the yellow connector (which is fragile). I've changed numerous headlight LEDs without detaching it.

It looks like the yellow connector is a part of the hose assy that connects to the engine:

I will. May take a day or so. I will try to show the point where it broke. It appears that is an area that will easily brake if not super careful.

The dealer said there is nothing wrong with the part. As I said in another post, this looks like a very weak area that will easily brake. I am trying to see if anybody has have this issue.

I will post a picture to clarify. It is a similar connector but much thinner in diameter.
