    Anyone Know the Correct Way To Adjust the Shift Cables

    I had my transmission out to change a bearing. I never disturbed the shift cables at all other than unbolting the bracket off the transmission. When I wrestled the transmission out I know the shift levers got moved . When I went back together the shifter feels like it is binding up. I've seen the step by step written procedure for adjusting the cables. I don't where to position the levers on the transmission for adjusting the cables. I'm trying to get the car back on the road so I can make Twisted next weekend. Help!

    Check this article out and see if this might be related. Basically, the check is if the shifter pops back into the middle of the shift pattern when you pull the shifter to the full left or right. That could be the shift lever binding up.

    Thanks but, the turboed cars have theC510 transmission and I have the C514 so it is different. My problem is caused by pulling the transmission out. It was fine before that. I think the written procedure for adjusting the cables would work if I knew where to have the lever on the transmission positioned.

    Fiat 500 C514 - 5-Speed cable gearshift control adjustments

    ADJUSTMENTS
    1. Remove the lower instrument panel bezel - that's the part where the shifter assembly is.
    2. Unlock the adjusting mechanism (1) by compressing the spring until it clicks in place.
    3. Scribe a line in the adjuster block (1).
    4. Hold the shifter in neutral in the plane and the transmission also in the plane while in neutral. Release the adjustment lock to secure.
    5. Go through the gears with the shifter to ensure that all gears are available and that reverse can only be obtained by pulling up on the lock-out mechanism. Repeat step 4 if necessary.
    6. Reinstall the lower instrument panel bezel

    I have an AAD shifter so I wonder if the procedure would be the same?
