no schrader valve in discharge line high pressure ac fitting ??

so my friends 2012 fiat 500 (not turbo) has a bad expansion valve, sent her to a shop to get it fixed and they said they can't charge the system because the high pressure line was leaking from the gauge hookup point. no problem right? brought down a set of hvac scrader valves from working on my subaru and replaced the low line one just fine, then they said no it's the high line, and when we opened the high line it appears to just have a clear ish looking ball-detente looking seal and no scrader valve. never seen an hvac line without a scrader valve, it's definitely the smaller discharge/high pressure line that it looks like routes to the front bumper.

has anyone seen this before? turns a $4 fix into a $350 fix to replace the whole line, is there something i'm missing here? tempted just to find the thread pitch for the cap and just do a teflon sealed plug, she's been out of work for covid and it's hot outside.

i'll try and get a pic, but any of you more knowledgeable people on here have any insight? never worked on fiats personally so i don't know their quirks.

you do not need to replace the hose. it's actually very cheap and easy to do. first you want to remove the radiator water reservoir so you have some working room. then you're going to use a closed 17mm wrench to hold right underneath the valve top you're going to be removing. I ended up using a crescent wrench for the top valve.

while you hold the 17 mm so the tube does not twist just turn the top part and it will unscrew.

I'm kind of new to this so I uploaded some pictures but don't know how to add them to this reply.

you can find the valve you're looking for at any automotive store like AutoZone or advance Auto. usually comes in a little kit with a couple of Schrader valves and caps for $14

it's super easy, just take your time and make sure not to twist the aluminum tube. mine was not even that tight.

if you have some silicone grease, (not silicon spray) it works wonders on seating and sealing O- ring.
