500T and Abarth turbocharger different/ possible replacement

I think this is a simple question.
    Are they the same?
We were told the Abarth has a different turbo than the 500T.
We are having some rattling noise coming directly from the turbo area, seems like its only at idle/low rpm.
Granted I don't really trust them but dealer is saying turbo needs to be replaced.

Also the model number they gave us seems to conflict with what we are finding online, however the online part # is showing discontinued.
    Should we be concerned?
as far as I can tell the model# RL892938AF but the shop gave us 68325875AA

You don't mention a year, but I assume you are talking to a Fiat dealer? If unsure about the part, you could call Fiat's US parts line. They'll take your VIN and tell you which part is for your car. It's not uncommon for parts to be superseded, or multiples to be listed that are supposed to fit. (There are multiple listed, but some are for Euro or diesel models.) The link above shows MyMoparParts shows RL892938AF. Since that is the same as on the Dart, it is possible FCA found another design that's more reliable.

I assume they are going by more than just a rattle; that they did an internal visual inspection and checked boost. That could be something as simple as a loose/cracked heat shield. You could always go for a second opinion.

It's really tricky to locate the correct part from their parts listings. So far I have looked up 2 parts online, to have the dealer tell me I needed a different part. I don't know the ones I found wouldn't fit, but the dealer parts fit.

Assuming you're in the USA, the Abarth & 500T have the SAME turbo. Exactly the same. Whoever told you they're different doesn't know what they're talking about.

Also, there are lots of sources for rebuilt OR new turbos. You're looking for a GT1446 for the Abarth / 500 Turbo, don't worry about the Mopar part number. Just don't get the Gt1446 for the Chevy Cruze, it's different.
