Before and after. The emblem is a bit battered after 60 years and someone repainting it twice (and damaging some of the plating). The new paint was easier to use but is different than ones I used in the past. I could do better on a second try, but this is good enough. This is one of 4 I've seen (even on the I-net), none on a car and the second in original colors.

The bumpy finish is normal for this emblem. The gold plated aluminum is cast bumpy, much like the FIAT emblems. I think these were applied only to Neckars of '61 to '64 to replace the similar shaped FIAT logo insert on the hood ornament. Few Italian FIATS were imported; those built by Neckar would have the oval Neckar emblem or the NSU-FIAT logo, making this fairly rare.

Wow, nice find and a gorgeous emblem. Great job on the restore. Lots of history in these badges and companies.

Thanks. On the bronze emblem, I'll have to keep my eyes open for that one; thought they were tarnished gold when I first saw yours. 1966-74 124 Spider and 1966-72 Sports Coupe, but I'm not sure if all those had bronze or if some bore the silver emblems. Does yours have any markings on the back? (I've seen several that were reproductions, like the one in this photo.) I have one that was originally bronze or gold, but all the "gold" turned black, common for those that saw a lot of light. I bought it because it's an interesting look.
