Also, after it happened, I looked down the road where we were when it started making the noise, and there was no oil on the road. I'd also had had it for 2 weeks after they did an oil change when this happened. If they had just not put oil in it when they did that oil change, it would have died long before it did. Also that the engine didn't overheat or throw any warning light of any kind is just completely baffling.

It’s likely the dealership will change their mind on what’s wrong. I went in thinking I had a driveshaft problem. They diagnosed a flywheel, replaced it, and the problem remained. So they put in a new transmission. And, they were supposed to do an oil change, but when I picked the car up, opened the hood and looked at the dipstick, they hadn’t touched the oil. Good luck. Trust no one. Lol.

The transmission and flywheel was covered under warranty. Did you tell the service department, to change the oil and filter. Did you pay for that?

The fact its covered under warranty wasnt the point? The fact they changed an expensive flywheel before realizing it as the transmission was. And yes, paid for oil.

Be glad the flywheel was under the vehicle warranty. Nothing out of your pocket. I would have been mad if I asked for a oil change. It wasn’t preformed.

So, the engine suffered some kind of internal failure. It has to be totally disassembled and rebuilt, whole new engine pretty much. This is likely the result of a poor rebuild job by another Fiat dealer from the last time the engine had to be almost entirely replaced. And that time it had to be rebuilt because of a screw-up by the factory.

I was warned about Fiat build quality. I had no idea it would be this bad.

Ok, so, I finally have a diagnosis from the dealer on what went wrong with the engine. I mentioned a previous engine rebuild that had to be done by a Fiat dealer. It turns out that when they did that, they didn't tighten the bolts on the flywheel. So, that went crazy, and now I need another entirely new engine. My experience with Fiat ownership has been a complete nightmare so far. That said, I still love my wonderful little car.

It's also quite possible that neither the warranty nor the previous dealer who botched that repair will pay for this. Wish me luck, I guess.

As I feared, my FCA warranty is refusing to pay for it on the basis that the FCA dealer it was serviced at screwed up the repair. I remain stunned by Fiat/Chrysler's poor build quality, botched repairs, and terrible customer service.

Sorry to hear. May be time to look into small claims court or see a lawyer to pursue that dealer that screwed up the repair.
