For FCA to side-step that on technicalities is troubling...
I posted a few months ago about a snapped shifter cable. Under covered parts, my warranty lists "shifter mechanism" as covered. That repair was denied on the basis that the shifter cable is not a part of the shifter mechanism. It's a part of the mechanism that shifts the gears, but according to Mopar it isn't part of the "shifter mechanism." Talk about technicalities....

And one wonders why the brand is ready to go under in North America...again. Our illegal, VW polluter diesel-gate mobile had loads of trouble under warranty, but VW fixed it every time. We never got to an extended warranty though.

Whenever you have an issue with a dealer saying no, you have to expedite that up the chain of command. Did you try the Fiat Cares link I posted?

To be fair, this warranty language and policy is industry standard. Companies warrantying repairs to the original owner is normal. I worked at VW/Audi dealers on and off over three decades and let me tell you, FCA is a lot more lenient than them. They are known to say no on anything that isn't clear cut. Consider yourself lucky if they never hassled you.

Not gonna ask for their help until I get an initial yes or no from the dealer. Nothing confirmed yet, but the dealer that did the bad repair is apparently willing to play ball and is talking to my dealer about paying for it. There's some administrative technicality to do with my car being out of factory warranty but in an extended one that means the dealers don't have the authority to go ahead with payment or something, not really sure, but it sounds like they are trying to work that out and get it paid for. Wish me luck, knock on wood, etc.

Yeah, good idea to keep your cool with them, vent here with us instead, lol. Eventually, it would be pretty hard for any of them to look at you with a straight face and not be kinda embarrassed they did bad work but expect you to eat it.

Also that the engine didn't overheat or throw any warning light of any kind is just completely baffling.
I've had a Fiat dealer straight up tell me that my turbo was bad and it was simply spark plugs. I think they really don't give two sh*ts about Abarth 500 owners at this point..The dealership messed with my wastegate and told me that I was the one that did it so they voided my warranty...Corporate said the same. I go to pick up my car and someone at the shop admits they are the ones that messed with the wastegate in the first place...I spend money on a turbo and labor to install and problem was still there and then just to go over everything I replaced the spark plugs and voila...The dealership lied about it being the turbo, then lied about me touching the turbo just so they didn't have to work on my car??? I have no clue what the motive was...Oh, they drove my car 110 miles as well...Anyway, best of luck...You won't get it with the dealerships.

That is subpar. Have you tried FIAT CARES here? I imagine you have. Still. When I took mine in with the faulty transmission (6k miles) their first response was "if you're racing the car and burned the clutch then no warranty".
Gosh, thank you for completely blaming the customer first.
I can see where you're coming from...
