Still not back. They had an issue with one of the valves, so they ordered a new one. I was told Monday that there's 30 minutes of work before they can start the engine, no update since then. I'm trying to start a case through FiatCares. They said before that they couldn't deal with this because it was under Mopar jurisdiction, and they couldn't find any case records for the FCA internal stuff. I also wrote a letter to FCA corporate about a couple weeks ago but have heard nothing from them on that yet.

Called again today, turns out they also need a new ECU and had to order that, and that's not in yet. I am at this point absolutely terrified that the semi-reasonable quote I got before of "under $2k" once the discount is applied is never going to happen, so I have phoned up Fiat Customer Care and started a whole new case in the hopes they can re-evaluate their decision on payment in light of how expensive this is probably going to end up being and the abysmal experience I've had over the past 7 months. I am not at all hopeful, but I'm at least looking forward to calmly ranting at somebody there about what a ridiculous farce this entire process has been.

Is your car under the new car warranty, or a Mopar extended one.

Mopar extended, which doesn't cover any of this. It should have been covered by a dealer labor guarantee because this issue was caused by a botched repair job, but they weaseled their way out of that one.

I don’t see why an ECU wouldn’t be covered by Mopar extended - anyone care to comment?
2017 500 Abarth, manual trans, NAV, Beats, Sunroof, 17" wheels, everything. But no mods. None, nada.

I'd think either the warranty or dealer should cover the ECU, depending on why it went bad, though there could be a lot of finger pointing. For the engine, I thought you said the original dealer offered to fix the problem, but you chose to not take it back to them?

Not quite, they did say that a first as a kind of "if only this were possible" statement, but when I actually pressed the issue, they said they couldn't guarantee anything. I wasn't gonna send it to them without a guarantee that they would pay for the cost. I could have wound up having to pay the entire bill for the engine and having to pay for the cost of reassembling the broken parts and sending it to them. In any case, the "under $2000" that my dealer said was going to be only a little bit more expensive than the cost of reassembling it and sending it to them, so it wasn't worth the risk and the hassle.

I'll find out if the dealer or warranty are going to cover that stuff soon.

My guess for how they will get out of that one is they'll say that it broke because of the failure that occured and not as a result of a "factory defect." Hopefully it's just a new ECU they got with the new engine they got that's defective and not my old one. That way it's a lot easier to make the argument it's a factory defect.
