kinda rude & factually wrong. a simple google search shows even the un-expert...like yourself...what rims were available on a 2016 fiat 500 abath

if you have your own mechanic, go get several sets of different size tires, pop them on your broom-broom & then come back & educate us on your findings.

after youve done all that send the superfluous rounds of rubber back to the vendor & collect your refunded monetary outlay & youll receive lots of thanks 'clicks'

from the Nexen page it doesn’t look like they offer this tire. But it would be almost a half inch taller and probably best suited for a 7.5-8” wide wheel not our stock 7”. I’d probably stick with a 215 if you can Find the right one. I’m extremely picky with tires (almost to a point of snobby). But it’s usually paid off for me to be that way. The last previous set on the Abarth, my wife wanted a lower price so I went against my usual judgment and put Generals on it. They were garbage and it won’t happen again. For a long time I’ve put Michelin or Continentals on the cars and BF Goodrich on trucks. You pay more but get more. The other thing I saw was the 300 UTQG rating on them. Is this a couple thousand mile a year toy or is it going to be driven often. My wife’s abarth is her daily and I’d never go that low on it. 200 is usually a DOT race tire. Don’t expect mileage out of a 300.

Assuming it's actually 215 rather than 225. It looks like an unimpressive tire, I hope they're cheap.

I buy my tires almost exclusively from Tirerack. These look to be common on Amazon and maybe Ebay. I like the support from Tirerack so I don’t waste my energy shopping them much.

I think someone tried upsizing to a 215/40 and they wound up with a mild case of rubbing. There really isn't much room in there.

Amended: this was posted in 2013.

"I have 215/40's on stock 17's. I don't have any rubbing issues at stock ride height. They do come very very close at full left and right turns. Any wider and I'm certain they'd rub the fender liner when turning. It really just depends on your tires specific/actual dimensions.
The 215's fit the stock wheel very well. No more stretched look."

I think what we’re all saying is “Good Luck.”
Since many have looked into and tried the 215/40 with sketchy results and on that specific tire that appears to be “MEH”
I’d definitely spend my cash on better. And make sure I’m ready to adjust things for the potential rubbing.

If I went wider 215/40 17 - to make sure it does not rub - do they (the industry) make some kind of spacer and if so how does the work? I’m not familiar with that at all.

There is no way to make sure they do not rub without mounting some object the size and shape of that wheel and tire, and then making the suspension and steering move through its full range of movement to verify nothing hits. Or you could take a risk and try it. Or you could use the factory tire size.

What do you hope to achieve by using a tire 10mm wider than stock? Nobody else will be able to tell and it's not going to perform any better. From a risk/benefit point of view it makes no sense. I've certainly done it on cars that came stock with narrow tires, but the 500 Abarth wheels are already filling the fender wells.
