Can I swap 6-speed automatic transmission between 2 identical Fiat500s, will it work?
I have mixed info with regards to Transmission Control Module.
I called two different dealers and one told me that TCM gets car's VIN imprinted in it and ECM will reject that transmission transplant.
Other dealer told me it will work without any need for messing with TCM or ECM, or replacing any of them for new one.
Did anybody did an actual transmission swap on Fiat 500 6-speed automatic and knows for sure?

I wonder what the Fiat service departments do? When they replace a automatic transmission. Seems to me you can just swap them out, like any other car brand out there.

Why do you want to change transmissions?

So it looks like the answer is yes, but.
If you swap a transmission for a new one from dealer. That new one for 4.3k usd is actually used, remanufactured by Mopar with 100k/3yr warranty.
If you swap it with one from similar/identical car, the Dealer scanner will say the TCM on that transmission is unrecognized.
    That's what happened to mine.
They switched back to my old TCM and it works, but it works different, shifts gears completely differently now.

Asking because I did the swap and I am trying to figure out what went wrong with it.

Did they reflash the ECM and TCM? Seems to me like almost everything needs to be reflashed to work. I have reflashed both on my car with tuning devices.

How far did you drive the car? Most automatic transmissions built over the last couple of decades incorporate fuzzy logic and learn proper shift points based on how the car is driven. People often report changes in a transmission's behavior when the battery or TCM has been disconnected and then reconnected. It takes some driving for the transmission controller to relearn.
