My younger brother and Dad in front of the old Dart.....

Wow, cool pictures. Thank you for sharing them. They bring back memories of the era. I was surprised how large the Dart was from that era. My Dad had a Plymouth Belvedere wagon -complete with the pushbutton auto, too. Probably a '64 model? and checking it out, I guess it was related to the Dart. I thought the Belvedere was huge, but looking into it they were downsized compared to fullsize cars of that time. When I think of Darts, I think of the size of the late 60s, early 70s compact sized cars.

Of course, Dodge made some of the ugliest cars ever built. My friend was given a '62 Dart by his dad. He'd walk before driving it to school. Days when weather was bad, he'd park outside the school and walk the last block. Imagine this car, but in the base model (no chrome) and in $300 condition.

I remember them that way, too... but the '68 Dart was a good sized car @ 3500 lbs as I recall. Lots of space in the back seat. (It wasn't 1959 Caddy Limo room, but what is?)

I bet if it had this Ramcharger 413 in it he may have changed his mind.

A 440 Six-Pack sounds good right about now. Man, the skirts were cut short back then.

Naw, it was because the car looked like a Zandozan.

    1.jpg

The car had the old reliable 225 slant 6, an engine that wouldn't die. About $25 and a handful of tools, and we had the engine clean outside and in (they ran Quaker State, so lots of white sludge)... a couple gaskets and a carb rebuild. A couple weekends had it shiny and purring. It was nice to drop $2.50 in gas in the tank and make the 170 mile trip to the coast.

400+ HP would have been wasted in that car. The 140 HP of the slant 6 could spin the tires. A little exterior clean up and a junk yard seat, etc, made it decent enough to park in the HS lot.
