    Unhappy Sunroof wont open

Hello all. I have a 2012 Sport that is new to me. The sunroof vents, but will not slide back to open. How do I troubleshoot or reset so that it will open?

This might be worth a try - sunroof calibration:

    The full procedure is:
    • Begin with the the sunroof fully closed, it can be closed with a hex key if this is completely impossible with the switches (see owners manual).
    • Turn the ignition key to MAR (first position).
    • Hold the close button for approximately 10 seconds until the sunroof motor makes an audible click.
    • Within 5 seconds, release the close button then press and hold it again.
    • Continue to hold the close button while the sunroof goes through a full open and close movement.
    • Once the roof is closed again, release the close button and turn the ignition off and on again.

After this the sunroof should function properly - report back!

I heard that the hex key is to release the screen in case it gets stuck. Not sure how but I think that info came from Fiat Cares.

There should be a hex key in the glove box. To close the sunroof, if the motor fails. Right behind the inside sunroof. There’s a plug on roof ceiling. Remove the plug, insert the key. Crank to close. The sunroof, I believe is cable driven.

Your issue sound a little more serious. I’d try the above method. ^^^^^^

Ok, I have tried the suggested procedure to reset the sunroof today. In the course of doing the procedure the sunroof would not open. It made a “ratcheting” sound, sort of like the gears were stripped. So I did not try it again. I was pulling down on the switch (close), per the suggested procedure when this occurred. The sunroof will vent and return to the closed position. Suggestions?

    Hex key

By the way, what does the hex key look like? Does it have the Fiat logo on it? I have something like that in my glovebox.

I dont remember the Fiat logo. That hex key should be it. Not sure if it will help. Like you said. The gears are making strange grinding noise.

Fast Dave, I don’t know if you saw my reply in the thread. I tried the suggested procedure, Pulling the switch down (close), but I got a “ratcheting” noise, like the gears were grinding. The roof will vent, but not slide back to open. Other suggestions?
