    New clutch?

So as I'm starting to really build out my 500L (bigger turbo, forged rods/pistons, new tune, etc) I'm going to have to get a stronger clutch. Even with a stage 1 tune and some bolt-ons now, the clutch doesn't feel like it can hold any more power. Have to find some stronger motor/tranny mounts too.

That being said, it seems no one makes a performance clutch for the 500L. But, it if course has the C635 6-speed gearbox that the Dodge Dart and many Euro Fiats have.

I reached out to these guys: https://www.sachsperformance.com/en/...999781-999508b

They said the US 500L wasn't listed as compatible... Now I know the UK 500L has the same gearbox but a 1.6L engine. That shouldn't make the US version incompatible , should it?

Also, clutch Masters makes a Dodge dart clutch that I think would work just fine for my application.

    Any holes in my theory?

I would get a custom clutch. Or at least consider it. I switched from a spec to a custom on my abarth. Allows you to build something specific to what you need. Not just purchase for a torque rating. I wanted something that could take a lot of heat. I do a lot of track days, but plan on doing mire autox this year. Wanted something I can really beat on at the start box. A custom disk with different friction material on each side and a heavier finger spring heat treated p plate was under $400. Smoothest clutch I've had in my abarth. Used with a new oem flywheel. Was thinking about setting g up a group buy on here, but I figured there w oi old be very littler interest. I've used custom clutches in a couple race cars before and always had good luck. The company I've always used switched ownership, and this is my first ckutch from new owner, but seems to be as high quality as ever.

    It's at least worth considering.

Clutch is probably least of your worries though. The Europeans consider the 6 speed c635 to be inferior to the 5speed. It's even weaker. You're gonna need an lsd to reinforce the diff at a minimum I would think.

Good advice. Thank you very much. I know they don't love the 6-speed but I'm not sure how involved a transmission swap is. I can't imagine it's just unbolt and bolt the 5-speed on. If you'd PM me the company you got your clutch from, I'd appreciate it.

While I'd rather do all this work to an Abarth, wife won't let me get a 4th car. The 500L isn't paid off, but warranty has about 4k left
of 100k, and the engine only has about 40k miles currently (my first engine blew up). Blocks are cheap on these cars of I blow to one up.

I'm going pretty far outside of my comfort zone on this build.

California custom clutch. Like I said, they changed ownership, but the new young guy seems to put out good stuff.

5 speed swap is probably as simple as a 5speed flywheel/clutch assembly/hydro, custom hydro lines, minor shift linkage adapting, , and its probably just simple brackets and modified factory part to adapt mounting. If you dont mind nvh, this can all be solid,/simple. Axles would be the part really needing figured out. Probably have to have some made at a local driveshaft shop. Not a very in depth job as far as these types of things go though. They are both made to volt to the same engine.

Pretty sure tork has done 500l tunes and have the best files for abarth. The only files that have ever made over 200hp with or without a big tirbo in independent testing.

That's great! That definatly the first step to having a fast 1.4t. When you're ready for the turbo, shoot me a message. I can show you how to put together a td04 setup that is priced like a gt17 bolt on or super stocker with better emap x Imap ratios and more power potential, and way more wheel choices. I'm pretty sure the stock and stock type bolt on turbos are a big reason these cars burn valves. even 100% stock cars are sometimes burning valves......
