Alarm goes off randomly, trunk open light.

Okay so Iíve had this problem for months. Itís a 2015 500 Sport. Itís usually when the sun is out and hitting the car for a few hours. Once the alarm goes off it will keep going off if I lock it, so I have to leave it unlocked for long periods of time and I am tired of it. The reason the alarm goes off constantly is because it believes the trunk is open evidenced by the trunk open light. While I drive the light will go on and off as well.

The best part: Iíve already changed the dreaded wiring harness thinking it would fix this. The trunk handle itself WORKS, it opens the trunk when I press it. And the FOB trunk open button also works as it should.

I donít understand why my trunk open light is coming on and making my alarm go off nonstop.

I would rather deal with mechanical issues than this nightmarish situation.

Is this a aftermarket alarm system? I didn’t know 500’s came with OEM systems.

This may be a mechanical issue. I am guessing that the trunk closure-sensing switch needs adjustment or replacement. Since the open trunk light comes on, the system is sensing that the trunk is not properly closed. This means the sensing switch is getting activated. Even if the trunk is actually closed.

I would have to remove the trim on mine to see the switch; don't really want too! So I can't see how the switch actually functions. Depending on how it is set up, it may be possible to adjust, or get some material in there to shim it. Or... Identify the wires going to it and disable them.

If you have the trunk lid liner of and can post pictures, maybe we can give better direction. But, I'd focus on the switch.

That is what I originally thought was the problem. It only makes sense. But if you even attempt to look for such a part youíll find that it doesnít exist. Some forums say that switch is integrated into the trunk release handle and Iíd have to replace that. Thanks to fiat, you can replace the entire chrome piece with the handle and plate lights on it for $150, but no handle. I want to set this car on fire.

According to the 2013 service manual there is a LGATE AJAR signal in the LIFTGATE DOOR LATCH, and a EXT LGATE HNDL SW SIG in the LICENCE LAMP. Both of these feed top the BODYCONTROL MODULE.

Given that there does not seem to be a mechanical connection between the handle and the latch I would assume the the EXT LGATE HNDL SW SIG is used to tell the BODYCONTROL MODULE to open the hatch, while the LGATE AJAR signal in the actual latch is the alarm sense - not the chrome handle at all.

Why not take the latch out and see what's wrong with it?

EDIT: looks to be MOPAR 68070071AD
