2017 factory 500 Abarth, random clacking noise in engine?

Just today, when getting out of the car for a second, I noticed a random, clacking noise in the engine area (cue laughing from Click & Clack). Don’t remember hearing it before today. Car is a 2017 500 Abarth, everything factory, no mods, 5700 miles, no previous troubles with engine.

Here’s a Youtube clip - hopefully you can make out the ‘random’ pattern accompanying standard engine noise, which sounds like Morse Code in its’ non-pattern sequence.

If anyone can actually hear it, and has a suggestion or thought, suggest away. It’s a bit concerning.

PS - I bought the car used, with 1600 miles on it, and it’s been flawless for 10 months, other than some CEL’s.
It even sounds like something rattling that’s loose, or a piece of junk that’s been picked up maybe?

Last oil change was by dealer at 2300 miles approx. Checked in late December and seemed topped up.

That sounds like my car too. Makes the same unrefined noise. Like mentioned above, if your concern, and under the vehicle warranty. Have the dealership look at it.

Have you taken yours to the dealer for the similar issue? It’s been my experience so far that unless you show up with a smoking-gun at a dealer, no murder charge takes place...

Went to the dealership 9 years ago, mine made that crazy noise too. Really sounded junky, from the right hand front corner of the car. We listen to other cars, that made the same sounds. Figured it was pretty much normal. Someone else posted that same noise, a couple months ago too. Donít know finally, what he did about it. I recorded a video that noise too, a way back. Placed it in my Flicker account. Some reason this forum wonít recognize that video.

Like I mentioned, your car is still under warranty. No harm, by taking it in for a look. Give you piece of mine.

    Good Luck.

So the noise disappeared nine years ago, AFTER going to a dealer?

Maybe get a stethoscope and try to locate the sound? Chances are it'll stop as soon as you make an appointment with the dealer, but I'd have it checked. It could be something serious. That said, my '18 made a similar noise at the drive-thru this morn, and my Neon made similar for 15 years, 190 K miles.

    Welcome to Moderation
I’m going to drive gingerly for a day or two and listen more carefully. The only reason I heard it was because I got out of the car with the engine running, which I normally don’t do. I’ll see what it sounds like in-cabin, and double check the oil level today. I’m under warranty for two more years, so that’s all good.
