2020 Autocross Season

It's been pretty quiet in this section for a few months. Is anyone ready for the 2020 season yet? I'm getting close to popping for my usual RE71 tires again, but I wonder if anyone's come up with another winner yet? Seems that SOMEONE should have taken out the Bridgestone by this time. Or size differences? I've used the 201/45-16s for the past few years but I'm checking to see if a wider RE71 will fit. Any ideas?

I haven’t made any changes from last year, sticking with HS and my old Hankook RS3s for now. But same story as last year, my work schedule is probably gonna get in the way and I’ll be lucky to make one or two events. I’m scheduled to teach one of Tire Rack’s Street Survival courses, and then I’ll try to do a track day or two and then maybe a rallycross to change things up. Should be a chill season.

As as far as tires, I don’t know about going wider. A 225/45-16 looks meaty on a 7” wide wheel, but I’ve not run a course with it (had it on a Subaru). I’ve read that a 225 will rub with 17s but I don’t know about 16s, there might be a tiny bit more clearance in there. Plus 205/45-16 is a pretty common size, you won’t find as great a selection when the aspect ratio starts dropping. If you decide to experiment keep us updated, I’d be really interested to hear how it works for you.

Tires are of course the most important mod. So instead, I did suspension,sway bar, brakes and power mods. Still going to trash the Pirelli's again this season. I've heard though that lesser tires are better to show you where your messing up, and I still suck, so there is a bright side. Last race was August. First Race is April, and I'm dying inside.

I was planning to do some more local autocross events this year on Long Island, but no luck so far. I think the Porsche Club America did one event before everything got shut down. My son did the Lemons race at Barber, but for now of course everything is on hold. I've got a pre-paid (holiday discount) HPDE track day with NASA-NorthEast, so who knows where that will be this year.

I've got some used 17 inch RE71-Rs on my wheels that are messed up, can't use the wheels, so I'm deciding if I want to buy new wheels, or maybe just get rid of the tires.
