    Defrost and max defrost

Just purchased a 500X and was curious if the "Max defrost" setting was only supposed to blow hot air. The manual states that setting will cause the blower to blow on hi, but doesn't specify that the temp would also be max heat, and mine doesn't allow a temp change on max, it's only max heat.

Also, is it normal for the temperature to go up and down one or two degrees constantly whenever you're using defrost on foggy windows? I'll start out at 70 and it gets really hot very quick, but then I'll back down to 68 and it'll get cold then within a couple of seconds it's too hot, and so forth. It's a little bit annoying on a long drive in the rain to constantly have to be switching up and down a temperature or two for Comfort instead of it staying consistent. Was just curious if that was just a defrost thing.

    Welcome to the forum

The defrost operation is complicated by having to meet specific DOT Defrost performance standards that require a specific portion of ice melted off of the windshield within a certain amount of time in a -10 F ambient temperature. That's why the fan blast to high when the defroster is selected. Our Audi does that, too, and I have to say it is a bit annoying.

As for the temp fluctuation, don't remember what out 500X did, but maybe someone can check their car and see how their's compares.

I don't have the knee jerk reaction to regulations as some have, BUT THESE PEOPLE NEVER RUN OUT OF USELESS THINGS TO THINK OF.

I replaced my headlight bulbs with LEDs and set about re-aiming them. It is now apparently Federal law that they can only be adjusted up or down, and not side to side. This is ridiculous.

If you turned the fan speed all the way up, the temperature will not change; the max is for defrost only as you see. I believe the same thing happens when you turn the temperature all the say down to low; the fan speed will increase to the max.

Since you can see the temperature on the climate controls, I am assuming that you have the dual climate zone with auto control; I always keep mine on auto and set to 70-72 during the winter. The fan speed will regulate itself so the cabin is always at the same temperature and it will keep your windows clear of fog. Hope it helps
