2015 500L alarm going off

Hello and thank you in advance for any help with this issue
It seems our alarm could be malfunctioning.
While out earlier today I returned to our locked car to get something from the hatch storage area, after removing the item,closing the hatch and rearming the alarm I returned to the store to continue browsing. I heard an alarm going off and realizing it was our car went to see what had happened. I pressed the key fob to unlock the car and entered the drivers door, inserted the key and the display had a message stating boot open and something like breakin attempted? We have since returned home and after locking the car and being in the house for maybe 10 minutes the alarm has again started and when checking the vehicle the same message is appearing.
Any suggestions on what may be causing this and a possible solution?

Look at the wire harness that goes between the rear hatch and the body of the L. If there is damage as in cuts/broken wires could be an answer.

I think I would try disconnecting the batter for a short period of time as well. See it the unit will reset. I would do what 5port said first though.

Thanks for the suggestions, will give those things a look and try the battery disconnect, I did manage to get the hatch open and removed the latch assembly where there was some corrosion on the wires, cleaned those up as good as possible which seemed to help some but the latch motor doesn't seem to be engaging every time thus not allowing the latch to close completely and hold the hatch in the closed position.
Will try the suggestions on Sunday and post the results.

Thanks for the help all, After the suggested troubleshooting here turns out it was a bad latch, All fixed now and the Mrs. is able to once again have access to the hatch area!
