Got hit--found out something random/interesting about the striping on Abarth 500

Freakin got hit by someone making a bad left turn. Their insurance paid for the repair. Looks fine now EXCEPT FOR ONE SMALL PROBLEM:

Mopar no longer makes the original striping for our cars! It's now all one solid clear slab with black printed on it, and it's wider. The OEM striping was individual black pieces, and a bit more narrow. (half an inch difference i'd say)

After a few days I noticed that the stripe on my door is wider than the beginning of the stripe behind the front wheel. Then I found out Mopar is no longer making the original striping that my 2016 came with...they now make this:

^^ That's basically a clear piece of vinyl with black printed on it. So when you run your fingers across it you do not feel any bumps since its all one piece. The original is allllll separate pieces even the thin lines towards the back.

That being said--I considered just telling them to remove all the stripes, but a few friends of mine told me it really will change the look of the car and make it less distinguishable ..idk. For now I am going to tell them to replace the old stripes with all new now since they already did my door and it's a completely different width. It's just a damn shame that they don't make the original vinyl/stickers anymore...I guess I'm stuck with thicker stripes on my car...

What would you have done? Install the newer style stripes all around, or just remove the striping altogether? Just curious--I'm definitely keeping the striping at this point and the guy has ordered the rest of the stripes to match my drivers side now (driver side wheel, and passenger side basically).

I was never a fan of the one piece printed stripe. I'd remove all the old stripes and just have them do both sides with the same stripe. Or there are a bunch of vinyl shops that make them and you can customize them. On my Sport and Abarth had them made from the ones on eBay. On my '18 500c i ordered a set of the new style stripes from a vendor called Stripe it Lucky Decals. Great quality.

My Nephew 2018 Abarth was damaged. When thieves stole the wheels and tires off his car. The body shop who repair it, put his factory stripes on wrong. He removed them himself, and installed aftermarket ones himself. Just replace all them yourself. These are one piece strips. A couple hours work.

Sorry to hear about the accident. I would change both stripes so they match. If you are bothered by the one piece, you can buy multi-piece stripes online. When I ordered my Grigio car April of 2012, I didn't order the stripes. I wanted grey stripes which they didn't offer so I bought them on ebay.

They've been doing the one piece stripes since ~mid 2013.

We've had a few discussions on the one piece stripes:

I could take or leave the stripes, but I'm having a hard time seeing what the objection to the newer design is? I can see why a single stripe with clear areas would hold up better.

The clear vinyl in the future, might start to yellow.

Maybe, but that is speculation. Seems to me more likely the original design would peel given the greater amount of edges.

As for width & appearance, there's not enough difference to matter if you didn't have one right next to the other. And maybe even if you did.

Aesthetically, the separate pieces do look more upmarket. The single strip is easier to put on and more durable as there are less edges to have to worry about.

Maybe it depends on the color. With the black stripes on dark gray on mine I don't find it objectionable.
