    2019 sirius xm retrofit possible?

    Hi!

I am looking at picking up a leftover 500c, found a white one w/ the red roof that just looks great but it doesn't have satellite radio. It looks like all 2019 models come with the uconnect 3 w/ various audio options, which makes me think that it's a simple upgrade?

so... is it possible to "reasonably" retrofit the factory SXM setup?

    Thank you

If you purchase the car w/o the uconnect 5, you'd have to install an aftermarket stereo to get satellite radio and GPS. That can set you back a couple grand. Yep, Fiat decided to make the radio factory only, left out a cable necessary for the upgrade and refuses to sell you the cable or stereo.

There's a couple articles on the site explaining about upgrading the stereo. I researched the upgrade when I bought my car a year ago, so memory on pricing may be incorrect. IIRC, the 2 adapters for the after market stereo are about $400, with full featured stereos at around $1200, plus (usually) around $150-200 installation. At the cost, you'd probably want some speakers ($100 + $100 install) per pair, and maybe an after market 350W amp ($400 + $150). Negotiate and you can usually knock off some on labor for a full install, and most install shops will match Crutchfield's pricing on components.

A new 2019 OEM unit is going to be expensive. You might want to go aftermarket. Check out Crutchfield Auto.

what does a 'leftover' actually mean? an '18 or 19' model?
i thought any car made after 2010 (or whatever) had sirius xm as an option on a car radio

Yep, it's an option, but you have to buy it when you buy the car. Then my dealer said, if mine was equipped, they'd charge me, IIRC, $850 to hook it up.

If it's like my dealer, they seldom (never?) stock a 500 w/ SXM.

It's a 2019 base model Pop. There are also 1957 editions that are loaded and have the SXM option but I do prefer the white + red Pop and the savings over the 1957 edition also help

I guess a separate tuner into the AUX port would do

Thats the way I went on my 13' Sport. I have the docking station and Sirius tuner hooked up to my cheap OEM stereo

I don't know if it would work for you, but, my 2016 Abarth came with a double din tuner with satellite and SXM. I swapped it for a Kenwood unit. My stock head unit is available, but I don't have any cables.
