2021 500e coming back with AWD?

    Looks interesting...
And I must admit - the rear motor for cold climates, like MI winter, would be so very helpful!!

It will certainly be interesting to hear if the new redesigned 500e comes back to the US, or not. To succeed at this point it will need 240 mile range, CCS charging, and good lease deals. At the moment FCA only has the 500e to meet the growing number of states that are adopting the ZEV standards. Unless FCA plans on buying more Tesla credits or bringing in the Peugeot electric.

Seems like it would also need to be profitable? Then again I'm not sure there are any profitable EVs on the market.

From those spy photos. That 500 test mule, doesn’t look different from the present platform. Unless it’s a crossover, SUV, or truck. The consumer here isn’t Interested in a small electric city car.

I think the first article was off by saying the money invested in the US indicates the car will be made here. Those plants need a lot of investment to be competitive and there are rumors they'll redesign more like the Mexico plant... quick switch over... to build big EVs.

I'm guessing those dash switches might be standard on all prototypes. The start/stop button and 4WD selector could be for EU gas models. As smark says, it looks like they are hacking the current EU body for testing. The rumors have it the new body will be slightly longer, possibly to add a bit more room for passengers. If so, that might kill the project for the US.

We may know come March, after the Geneva show. If Fiat is holding off for that show, maybe the cars will be 2021 models.

" FCA announced that it is planned to start work on the new Fiat 500 with electric drive in Q2 2020 at the Mirafiori plant. About 1,200 people will be employed in the production of this model, and the initial production volume will be 80,000 units a year, with the possibility of increasing it in the future. "
...from a FCA press release earlier this year
