I love the comedy routine, but people will take him serious. When was the last time that sludge was changed?

If you're talking about the fact that it's black...I've owned 2 Sports, 1 Pop and 1 Abarth with the exception of the 1st Sport they've all run Pennzoil synthetic of the proper grade as specified in the owner's manual. And EVERY one of them drained black oil when they were drained. And everyone of them looked so clear on the dipstick that it was hard to determine the level without shifting the angle of light hitting the dipstick.

While I've never had it done, I would wager a cold soda, at least, that the oil had a LOT of life left in it.

OK, I guess I'm not running oil long enough, or low enough. (He was down over 1 1/2 quarts.) Last time I changed oil that black was when I ran Arco Graphite in my first new hatch.

Black tells absolutely zero about the condition of an oil, other than its doing its job and holding carbon in suspension. You need finer bypass filtration like the luber-finer that trucks use to remove most of the carbon.
