I'm in the mid-Hudson Valley in NY and there are tons of Jeeps and Ram pickups all over the area. The town I live in has a population of 1,400 and there has been a CJDR dealer here for decades. A new owner bought the dealership last year and it just closed recently. Too bad because it was a nice small town dealer that was locally owned for all those years. The new owner was from downstate and had another dealership close and was not liked. Hopefully it will reopen again under better management.

I’m guessing he bought it TO close it, sending all the traffic to his other locale? Considering the shiny, positive sales profit report FCA recently posted, it seems odd otherwise, yeah?

Fiat Chrysler Automobiles NV will lay off 1,500 unionized employees at its assembly plant in Windsor, Ont. as the automaker phases out production of the Dodge Grand Caravan.

On Thursday, the Italian-American automaker notified Unifor of its plans to cut the third shift at the plant as of June 29. It will phase out the minivan at the end of May to align volumes with demand, FCA spokeswoman Lou Ann Gosselin said in an emailed statement.

The company will make every effort to place indefinitely laid off hourly employees in open full-time positions as they become available based on seniority and will offer retirement packages to eligible employees, the statement said.

The move comes after FCA announced plans to merge with Frances PSA Group in December. Executives promised not to close any plants in the merger.

In the merger there will be no affect on production in Ontario, FCA chief executive Mike Manley said at the time.

Approximately 4,500 workers will remain in Windsor after the cuts. The plant will continue to make the Chrysler Pacifica, Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid and Chrysler Voyager.

FCA first announced plans to eliminate the third shift in March 2019. But it delayed the downsizing after outrage and disappointment from Unifor, which at the time was also grappling with the closure of the General Motors Co. assembly plant in Oshawa, Ont.

No cuts have been proposed at FCAs plant in Brampton, Ont., where 3,400 workers build the Chrysler 300, Dodge Charger and Dodge Challenger.

So, is this merger really going to happen?

Did PSA finally end it's ownership of Datsun/Nissan?

I think you've confused PSA with Renault.

To the best of my knowledge it has always been Nissan and Datsun was a brand inside it. In the USA it was Datsun and changed in the mid 80's not exactly sure of the year. The brand Datsun is still around. It is the "cheaper" brand of Nissan like Scion was to Toyota.

Seems like a direct slap in the post-mortem face of Sergio Marchionne, who grew up in Ontario and from where he partly orchestrated the Chrysler bailout and takeover. A big slap.

FCA to expand another Indiana transmission plant

FCA announced another investment in the Indiana Transmission Plant II (ITP II) near Kokomo, according to the Kokomo Perspective and FCA itself.
Observers already noticed that the UAW contract includes $490 million of investments in the Kokomo areas five plants, some of which were already expanded to boost production.
The first Chrysler engine ever to be built in Indiana, a 2-liter turbo four, is reportedly to soak up $400 million of that money, with an eye towards production in 2021.
