[QUOTE=CoachRick;850706]Thanks for your response; but not considering the 500X but the L. I think the L has more usable cargo capacity than the Soul.

I meant the 500L, not the X. We owned a L, and now two Souls.

The L has a bit more cargo capacity compared to the Soul according to the specs and it feels that way when loading through the hatch(to me, anyway).

Being a boxy shape our 15, and 16 Souls with hold, up right more container boxes. My wife uses for trade show. You can stack 3 up. While in our 2014 500L, only 2 up. The 500L, is more like a small station wagon The 2020 3 generation Soul, is slightly bigger.

Curious, we alway do a lot of cross shopping before buying vehicle. Even rent one for a weekend, to test drive. Have you looked at the Jeep Renegade.

This is for a friend, 44 year-old single female about to move into a newly built home in town. Not a LOT of projects; but she does want some cargo capacity. Doesn't want a two-door, doesn't really want/need SUV off-roadness. She had a Mazda Tribute for many years...not looking for that size vehicle.
For right at $20K, I'm thinking the Soul makes a lot of sense. IF the 500L didn't have the deep discounts, it likely wouldn't have been mentioned(even though it fits her capacity requirements). I suggested the Mazda 3 Touring or even the CX 3(at a discount?); but she is over Mazda for whatever reasons.

Just an update(finally!...my friend was out of the country for a while and put the search on the back burner for a couple of weeks after).
My Pickleball buddy picked up her 2020 Soul S last night. Paid right at $19K with only the S level items and carpeted mats. Got some maintenance freebies tossed in and I think there is still a financing rebate available if she goes that way.
I'll park the Elle next to her at Pickleball today and do a comparo. BTW, the "S" model of the Soul has many of the nanny features that my friend has never had on any vehicle...she did not care at all about leather or a pano roof, so the deal on the '19 500 L never got off the ground.

Thanks to those who made suggestions!!!
