I assume any future FCA car will probably be rebadged as a Dodge/Jeep. Alfa is almost unknown outside big cities, not surprising since there's about 80 dealers in 33 states. +1 on looking like a old person's car. When I took my car to a family gathering, my 40 y.o. niece asked who makes Fiat.

This is a college city so we have a fair number of Pops are on the roads. College kids showed up in them. I imagine if they'd been Abarths, they wouldn't have dumped them so quickly.

Sedans are sedans. but maybe if they saw these models they may think they are at least sporty cars.

Alfa Romeo is working on getting brand awareness. It really is in the early stages in the scheme of things, and it is an agonizingly slow process for many of us. Fiat had a bigger splash and the JLo campaign really helped get the general public to recognize the brand, regardless of what people say on the internet. Internal documents show a huge spike in awareness and even kids would recognize a 500 during that time.. Alfa hasn't had that happen yet, but this new Netflix movie may help some.

Alfa Romeo has a heritage that is second to none and has huge potential. FCA could make some money selling them. They need to build a strong foundation, though, and that seems to be struggle for them.

If it hadnít been for that dreadful Car & Driver 18 month review (Car & Driver, yes?), I may have bought one. Completely freaked me out reading that piece. Three months in the shop? To a magazine crew yet. Really liked the styling, handling, interior....but man, that was the end for me, that and all the dealerships shutting their doors...

The reintroduction of the 500 looked very smart since at the time of the buyout of Chrysler, oil prices were high and the market was bad. There were lots of people who needed a new, small cheap car with good mileage.

Then oil prices dropped, the market heated up and everyone decided they wanted a RAV4.

Whatever the new company's city car offering will be, it has to be orders of magnitude more fuel efficient than what we currently have. In 2012, 34mpg was pretty good for a non-hybrid car. Today in 2019, it's marginally better than cars three times its size.
Besides completely fumbling the marketing of the cars at launch, Fiat never developed anything marketing-wise to hang their hat on. 500's were small cars, but are they fuel efficient? As compared with most other compacts and sub-compacts? Nope. Sure they were small "city cars", but the U.S. market doesn't know what that means, let alone care. Can cute alone sell cars? I suppose, but most younger consumers want cheap, reliable transportation. E-Scooters are the chosen Urban Dweller form of transportation, not cars. Cute-consumerism is too small of a minority. If FCA-P were dumb enough to try the city-car thing again in the U.S. by offering completely garbage-cars from Peugeot, they deserve to be tarred and feathered as a business.
