    Has Just Posted the Following:

This year marks the 120th anniversary of the founding of Fiat in 1899. To celebrate the occasion, Fiat commissioned a special Two-tone painted 500X model called the 120th Anniversary Edition. First shown at the Geneva Motor Show earlier this year, the 2019 500X 120th Anniversary Edition is now coming to America. Based on the 500X Pop model, the attractive ...

I was wondering about "The Icon" in the second video. <sigh> If only...

Sorry, I'm not impressed w/ a $5 medallion for $1000, especially when I'd be buying the car in black.

Up till the 2019 release of the 500x the Pop model was powered by the 1.4 Turbo with a standard Transmission.

Unfortunately' everyone says they want a manual trans, but when it comes to buy a car their significant other steps in and they opt out and get the automatic. Remember, 99.9% of car buyers are not car enthusiasts. Ok, make that 93% because 7% do buy manuals. The cost of certifying a car is staggering and they can't justify the ROI. Blame government regulations my friends.

I have never bought an Automatic car for my personal use, so I am all for it and would push for them, but the argument against them is just too tough to overcome for the majority of car companies.

Back in 2015, I grabbed a 4C and headed to lunch with an Alfa exec and asked about the manual trans for the Giulia and below is what they said highlighted in bold. To sum up, the car has to go through the recalibration and tuning of all the stability controls and the cost is a evidently a killer.

    2) We know the AR SUV is coming very soon after the Giulia arrives. What is the publishable (and realistic) launch for the fourth Alfa Romeo entry? What will that entry be?

    3) Are there any plans to support Alfa Romeo is Motorsport for North America?

Unfortunately we talked over lunch and they had to take off to catch a plane so I didn't get a chance to ask this.

    1) But, remembering other conversations, there may be more partnering with Maserati going forward.
    2) I'm afraid that is something all the drink at Sheeran's could never shake out of them!
    3) Alfa back into racing is a good question. I've read that question has been posed to Marchionne before. I think that had to do with Forumula 1 though. Racing is expensive, so I am going to speculate they are going to concentrate on selling cars first.

Some other info I can share is don't look for a manual trans in the regular Giulia. The staggering costs of certifying the manual trans powertrain, recalibrating stability controls and difficulty in meeting ever tightening emission standards are huge obstacles that the limited sales volume preclude. Bummer.

Also, someone asked about a smaller Giulietta like car here and that isn't likely right now. They are trying to reintroduce people to the the prestige of owning an Alfa Romeo. The other Europeans are going down-market and dumping cars here to make up for the soft European market.

Usually the special editions are all good values. Breaking it down, I looked into this and the take it or leave it roof is normally $445 leaving $550 for the LED headlights and the upgraded alloy wheels and mirror caps, so $25,735 is not too bad. You can't get LED headlights in the cheaper Pop model, so the next cheapest model with LED headlights is the $1155 more 500X Trekking with a $895 Drivers Assistant Package ($26,890). The new Sport has optional LED headlights for a total of $27.890.

So the 120th Anniversary is the cheapest way to get the LED headlights which are a nice upgrade for those who want them without going for higher priced cars.

It's even more than that. Listening to a podcast, I was informed the take rate for a manual on the BMW M3 was only 30%. The podcast host thought that was high. For an M3, I think that's embarrassing. Even the new Corvette won't have a stick. The market has changed, and traditionalists like us will just have to live with it. There's just not enough sell through.
