Cause of oil consumption on Abarths?

I've seen many threads about some abarth's consuming oil and some not. I've heard some people getting new blocks and others getting turbos under warranty but anyone here have an example on how they fixed their car's oil consumption? Was is a scratch in the cylinder wall, bad valve seal, turbo jounral, etc?

    Pictures would be awesome!

My car has 36,000 miles on it, and absolutely ZERO oil consumption. The owners who experience consumption (it seems to me) are those who autocross or push their cars very hard. Under those conditions, any car will see some consumption. I've been on assorted Abarth message boards for over five years. I don't see these issues as recurring problems, unless someone has modded themselves to limits the engine was never designed to handle.

Mine loses oil too. Mostly on top/front of the drivers side in the engine and somewhere separate on the passenger side. I'm... impressed? by how much oil a car with less than 70k can leak.

Leaking and consuming are two different things. I dont think there is a link between mods and oil consumption. Many many owners report extremely high oil consumption on fairly new stock cars. Like having 1.5 quarts left in their car by time of first oil change and stuff. My first abarth I just sold had zero oil consumption at 3k oil change intervals. I started frequently checking when I heard all the horror stories. My higher mile abarth may lose half a quart every 3k miles. I cant exactly confirm it, but it appears to use a little. My car that didnt use any had a larger turbo, every bolt on mod imaginable. All installed form about 5k miles onwards. Saw track days 5 or 6 times a year. My other abarth remained stock till 39k miles. It hasnt seen any track days. Its mildy modded.

The oil consumption thing is so random it appears that people are going to see what they want to see out of the available evidence. But nothing points towards modded cars using more oil. Eddie's 124 was brand new and leaked a few quarts every couple hundred miles from lined up ring end gaps.

That was meant to be a joke about not being able to tell where my oil was disappearing to (burnt or leaked).

samwichse have you check the oil separator "donut"? It's a common leak point and costs about a buck.

    You talking about this thing?

If that's it, that will be 50% of my leaks and halfway to finding out if my car burns oil or not :-P

That's the one. There was a thread here a couple weeks ago, about PCV valve. I think one of the guys found a better-than-stock replacement. It included a video about cleaning the box, replacing the PCV, and that oil ring.

It is remotely possible that that is your whole leak. They are known to leak enough to fill #4 and #3 spark plug holes.

BTW, 1 quart in 1000 miles is not considered excessive, so maybe this will get you back into spec.
